How are you guys getting aftermarket tail lights to fit the Flaresides?

As a Christmas gift to myself, i finally got a set of tail lights that match my tailgate paint just about perfectly.

Issues -

- They are a 3 bulb design, OEM tails have 2.

- The top of the housing is not fitting to the contour of the bed. The top of the taillight itself sticks out from the bed/tailgate and looks funny and look like it need to go back further in the bed.

I have tried cutting a little fiberglass from the inside of the bed where the housing is and also ground off the tab on the exterior of the tail light housing, but they still don't fit worth a crap.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

That was my guess that they are upside down. I ran a 3 bulb setup on mine with no problems. make sure you tape up the remaining hole.....

How do you install a taillight upside down?? It is impossible.

Anyway Mark I had that problem when I had my stepside. Some tails worked and some didn't. I don't know what it is and I'm not sure how to fix it. I did only run 1 screw on the inside. Like where the tailgate closes. And that seemed to work.

My flareside came with 3 bulb tails. I bought it new so they are OEM.

My first though is the lights are formed incorrectly. Unless you flipped them and installed them on the wrong side. Even then im not sure if the screws would line up.

The tail light shape has been the same since 93, so they should fit. The flaresides are a little tighter in space for the harness in the rear, but other then that they should just fit right in.

Where did you get them from? Maybe they aren't for a Ranger?

That is what I did with my 06's. Some people have said that they have to do a lil trimming to get some sets to fix. If you want to use that 3rd light just pick up another bulb socket and splice into your current tail/brake light.
