Hey whats your engine? Is it a 4.0?
Offroading sounds wonderful and is fun, but if I did it again I would definately go supercharged. If you have the 4.0 SOHC engine, theres a kit you can buy on ebay for 1400 that uses a M90 supercharger that you can find for 200 bucks.
I have the lifted thing going for me, everyday i wish I could have 31 inch tires and be really fasted. But now, I have 35s and relatively fast.

whats your budget?
i did a spindle lift with my buddy, easy stuff...took a few hours since we had to replace tie rods and go to the shop...spindles were $300 and then AAl and shackles in the back for about another $100
CB and some offroad lights should get ya started...check out www.stuffforyourranger.com as well as www.jusnesmodified.com for other accessories, they got plenty...

wow...first car? cool...makes me remember my first car...it was a '69 VW Van and it was GREAT. I sanded the front end (wonderful bug catcher) down to bare metal, primered it and fixed a couple dents with bondo, took it to good old Earl Scheib and had it painted "Butterscotch"...turned out pretty much School Bus orange instead...awk!!
But it was a blast and the guy I sold it to in 1990 is STILL driving it with that same paint job...
Have fun with your new pickup!! Keep the mods simple would be my advice. I would think a good detailing, do the full treatment on the exterior (clay bar, and all the fancy wax stuff that ya can read about here), maybe get a good code reader or even a programmer. Have the AC, tranny and other such stuff serviced (unless ya know the service history). I know this is DULL-DULL-DULL stuff but if ya want it to last now is the time to do it before the other stuff. Stuff like big tires = BIG BUCKS and also will decrease your mileage a bit...I know, I know...gawds I have become my parents in my old age!! d'oh!!
Oh, when I got my '97 last year one of the most FUN things was to Seafoam the engine...that was COOL and it sure made the engine run smoother. Search here and even on YouTube and see some great video's of people running Seafoam through their engine.
