Buy the older metal style. They fit, and don't break. Someone on here sells them, that's where I got mine.

Mine did the same thing a few weeks back. I bought a replacement one off eBay, NOT recommended, at least the OE plastic ones. It was easier to take off the original rusted nuts then it was to install the new one. The one from eBay was exactly like the original, just when trying to tighten the nuts down, the weak welds on the back side of the bolt gave way. Needless to say, I wasn't very impressed. I didn't know the metal ones would even fit, knowing that now, I would have gotten those instead.

James --

I have a metal (chrome) tailgate handle that you can have for $5 plus the cost of shipping.

mine broke too. I just replaced it with a plastic. I was worried about the heat on a metal one out here but? I guess i don't use it so much that matters? LOL. Next time i'll get a metal one.

I've gone through two. The current plastic one has held up real well. I attribute this mainly to the fact that when I installed it I greases all the latch mechanisms and linkages. Before it would open hard and I have to push the tailgate in for it to open, but now my wife can open it with one finger. Whatever replacement you go with, I'd highly recommend greasing everything with high quality grease.

^^^ Yeah spray everything with white lithium grease and adjust where the rods are in the yellow clips so that it opens easier.

If you do both of those things it'll open up really easy and fast
