How long can I run them

My girlfriend and I just took a trip to Montana over the weekend and we drove her car. 04 Chevy Malibu which happend to get over 30mpg.

We drove in the middle of the night (10 pm-6 am) and were always on the look out for deer. 8 hr trip give or take a little.

Any ways I have a pair of 150 watt KC daylighters on my truck and was wondering if I drove how long could I have kept my KC lights on for. I thought it would be a cool idea to point them at the median and the side of the road so we could see deer a long ways out.

Is there a certain length you can keep them on?

Well you shouldnt have to point them at the median. I have my Hellas aim straight and the beam is wide enough to see plenty of the median. I live in the middle of no where in between like 3 hunting clubs so there is alot of deer. They do get hot. I dont have an exact time but I just turn mine on when I need them and they seem to do well.

150watt lights are illegal to use on the road no matter were you go. You can run them, but AS SOON as you see headlights/taillights i would advise shutting them off.

Doesn't matter really were you aim them unless you aim the way off to the right, they will still be bright enough to blind a passing car or anyone sitting at a side road trying to access the main highway.

Do what you want, but don't complain when you get a ticket.......

Any offroad lights are illegal to have on here. Mine are driving lights or thats what they are classified as. I just keep the switch close to the stearing wheel so I can quickly turn them on and off for oncoming traffic.

the air should be enough to keep them cool. i see no reason why they couldnt be on as long as you wanted.

but i still dont see the point. its not like they still wont pop out in front of you.

i hate attached off-road lights. and i dont see any reason to run them on the road.

being all the conditions are right and there is NO ONE else on the road.. because there illigal

and you dont have the ABS covers on them, you can keep them on for as long as your alternator can keep up with them...

I have my lights set up to turn on with the brights. I have never been concerned about leaving them on too long but they are not ultra watt lights either.

I know they are illegal to run on the road. We would go 10 plus minutes with out seeing a car. In WY in the middle of the night there is no one.

I see a big point using them. They are 10x brighter then my head lights and deer do just appear. I am not saying that it will make the deer run away but, it will allow me to see them at a further distance so I can be aware sooner.

Here we go with the "mexican" crap again!!! Have you ever noticed that alot of different people use those things????? Maybe your too busy classifying people to notice. Think before you speak(or type). I for one am very proud to be Mexican...and no...my truck doesn't have those on it, but if I did live in an area with lots of deer, then I would definetly put a pair on it.

Congrats on you being a mexican. Whoop de do. Just like I am white, big deal. Its not what race you are its what you make of yourself.

I will classify whom ever I please. Hence this is America we can say what we please.

It is a good idea, in my opinion. Pointing the KC's out a bit will definitely improve the chance of seeing the deer sooner, therefore giving you more room to react.

I like the idea of wiring them into your brights. But I think to make it even better, you should be able to turn them off with the switch, and still have your brights on. (You might have it that way anyway.)

And you have to admit, alot of Mexicans do put sh*t on their trucks that looks tacky and cheap. I live in Greeley, Colorado, about 60 percent mexican, and all I see are guys driving around in low rider trucks with wall mart crap snapped on. But then again, you see alot of "hicks" with cheap stuff too.

Oh, and those whistles are worthless and they look terrible.

you guys are ridiculous, i think he got a few decent lines answering his question and a whole lot of crap....

I agree with Zach, there really isnt a limit on how long, as long as you have a decent battery and alternator.

Lord of War, I've run mine a good couple hours here and there without any problems. I doubt they can overheat since the air helps cool them. Like what was already said, your limiting factor here is the abilities of the charging system.

Thanks guys. I seem to agree with you that as long as my truck can run them with proper power then I should be ok. Its probably not the best idea to run accessories ( radio, a/c, etc...) while using the lights.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I can see how 6 could be a problem. I guess thats when a new battery (optima) and new alternator comes in.
