Niteshade my tails? Yay or nay

Well, I cant decide if I want to niteshade or not.

Here's the truck as it sits.. well, this pic was from 2 weeks ago after I detailed it. BUT, that's not relevant lol.

It should be noted:
  • I am NOT blacking the truck out. I like the chrome trim it has, and I plan on keeping it.
  • When I buy wheels for it, it will be getting chrome wheels as well.
  • I have not seen a pair of aftermarket taillights for this body style that I liked, hence why I'm considering niteshade. Just to clean them up a little. Their finish is sort of flat red now anyways.
  • I am not going with clear or smoked headlights/corners on the front. I think the stock lights on these look the cleanest, and I just love they way they look compared to clears.
  • I may or may not put a few coats on the clearance lights, and paint their bases black to allow them to look "cleaner" in the daylight, but look about the same in the dark.

Here are some taillights another OBS guy niteshaded. I would probably niteshade the whole taillight like this, because I plan to add some REAL back-up lights to the truck anyhow.

And for S&G, here is a pic I found of a truck like mine, with bigger tires. I love the look. Mine will look something like this one of these days :) I plan on keeping this same STYLE of wheel, however, I plan to find a 16x8 with a chrome finish. And a toolbox sometime soon :)

I say go for it! Dont forget to clear them.

freddie 07-29-2009 11:42 AM

Yes, they will definitely get clearcoated as well.

GrafixGuy 07-29-2009 11:42 AM

tint them maroon

01_ranger_4x4 07-29-2009 11:45 AM

NO! god i hate tinted tailights.

seed60 07-29-2009 11:45 AM

Yes!

I say just two light coats to darken them up and the same with the 3rd brake light. For the clearance lights I would go with clears and then nightshade. I think nightshade on amber lights look like poo.

cchsbuzz19 07-29-2009 12:03 PM

definitely nightshade the tails and 3rd brakelight I think it would look real good with the truck. I would tape up the reverse lights though, I think it would look alot cleaner leaving it unpainted.

cchsbuzz19 07-29-2009 12:08 PM

And for the clearance lights I think they look great the way they are. nightshading them wouldn't look good IMO.

Korey says no... that is an automatic yes to any question.

DO IT! And don't mask off the reverse lights.

vista4.0 07-29-2009 12:36 PM

i say tint them. Just like 2 light coats for that 'smoked' effect. Dont black em out. Right now they stick out like a sore thumb.

zabeard 07-29-2009 12:39 PM

1-2 light coats then clear coat them several coats.

something else maybe to try is just cleaning them up and clear coating them, that will give them the nice gloss finish

freddie 07-29-2009 01:04 PM

Thanks for the input guys.

I was leaning towards 2-3 coats of niteshade with a couple coats of clearcoat after that. I think thats the route I'm going to go. I considered just clearcoating them as-is, but I think just a slightly darker shade of Niteshade would look good.

As for the clearance lights, clear ones are IMPOSSIBLE to find. APC no longer makes them, and I would be lucky to find some. I plan to leave them as is, though I'm going to paint the plastic bases black.

aka perfect. It'll take some of the brightness off of the tails.
