Opinion for Fog Light Bulbs:
 

I should have my replacement OEM foglights in tomorrow or the day after, adn this following Friday/Saturday I will be installing them.. no my question is:

I planned on originally using some Silverstar Ultras.. good lights, at a 65 watt its not too bad... What would be your valid opinions of putting in some replacement Hella off road 110's or 100's? My concern is the heat generated, roughly 100% more thermal gain from the light they are outputting, and I am hoping anyone here has had any experience with those.

I've got time for the lights, I dont plan on installing the actual bulbs until I get a fairly decent answer on one way or the other.. and they will be used for actual offroad/bad weather driving.. the rain can get aweful crappy out here this time of the year, along with the winter snows.

I had no-name 100w ones in my fogs back in the day....ran then for a good two years, then took the valence off. Do it.

my concern would be pissing off oncoming cars with fog lights that are 45 watts over the legal limit. 65 watt is tolerable, but 100? not unless you only used them in fog and rain/snow.

Never use the foglights for on-road driving.. I actually do use them when they are needed.. and I switch them off when a car is passing by. You wouldnt beelive how many times my old fog Baja fog lights on my 88 ranger saved my butt from spotting deer eyes way in the shrubbery off the side fo teh road. Been driving since I was 16, and not a single ticket or accident yet.. i plan to keep it that way too, is beautiful for my insurance :-)

I ALWAYS ran my 100w fogs...day or night. At night...no people flashing me....keep in mind where foglites are aimed. They are aimed like 8ft in front of the truck, or something like that....nothing like 100w in the headlites.

yeah.. headlights are: 25ft out and they drop 3 inches.. headlights are aimed around 10 feet in front of the truck.. normally they are used to spot ditches when offroading, and give line recovery for teh white lines during pesky weather (sleet, snow, rain, etc.. etc..)

howmuch would 2 decent 100w bulbs be? Are there good ones and bad ones or does it not make a difference?

To be honest, theres a place I can purchase them at.. and the 110w hella offroad bulbs are actually cheaper then silverstar ultras.. the reasons being, ultras have to have 'extras' to be DOT approved, whereas offroad lights can go all out and not need to be afraid.. I will get you the website address.. in fact, pretty soon ehre, I will pop up a list of all the sites I use for all my OEM parts and bulbs and whatnot.. I usually pay a fraction of what people normally find them at for 'name brand' sites ;)

take apart the fog light housing, theres a little metal piece that goes around the bulb.

break that thing off and throw in a regular silverstar... WAAY brighter than stock
