Anyone had any luck with painting chrome?

I am thinking about going cheap and attempting to paint all the chrome on my truck. I just can't stand the chrome look anymore. Call me crazy.

Adhesion promoter.

But really, just use sand paper till the surface is nice and dull, then prime and paint. I say use 180 grit, so you don't put any deep scratches in it, but I'll let you decide on that.

Paint the front bumper and back bumper the color of your truck. I think it would look good. Justin did that to his front bumper and it looks great.

I have an 08 front bumper I'm going to put on my truck so I want to get a painted rear bumper for my truck to replace the rear chrome one. I've had terrible luck finding a decently shaped rear one for a fair price so I asked my body man what it took to paint chrome. He told me to do it right you really more or less have to grind the chrome off. I figured just some rough sand paper would work but he told me that really something more aggressive was needed. I have access to a sand blaster and he told me that would probably be the easiest way and would stick pretty well. He's been painting for decades and has turned out some really nice vehicles so I'm going to believe him. When he gets around to painting my front bumper, I think I'm going to blast my rear bumper and have him paint it too.

Why not just pull off the bumpers and go to town on them with an angle grinder? Sand them till bare metal.

I painted a bunch of chrome a couple weeeks ago.

Sand it down good to where it is not shiny
Prime the color you are painting.
Paint. Not that hard and so far not a single chip.
