Paint Rear Drums

Just put on new drums a few months ago and they are already rust colored and look really bad.
I am going to paint them black.

How should I prep the drum as far as removing rust?

Do I need to use any special paint?

wire wheel in your grinder, hand held wire brush........then if you want it to stay for a while, then paint a good coat of primer.....then add a flat or gloss of whatever color you want........i would do flat on the brake drums......then add a couple coats of clear....

I would use either hi temp flat black grill paint or caliper paint.

rust oleum works.....the outter part of the drum doesn't get that hot to need grill paint...

a paint called POR 15
its made to paint over rust and has a very strong bond to material. i painted my whole frame with it. its some what pricy, but so worth it if you want to do it right. and as far as prep. ur drum's just spray them off with a hose or something and ur good with this paint.

I have gotten mine hot enough to remove the paint. Granted the brake shoe failed to get it that hot.
Besides grill paint is the color he wants and about the same price as rust oleum.

I did mine with black hi gloss engine enamel. It's been on about 2 years and still looks like new.
