As you may have a read, I recently (Wed) purchased a new 2005 Ranger Edge 4x4 Short Bed.
On my last truck, seen here. I installed an Amp Research Fold-A-Trunk (ToolBox) which I covered in Diamond Plate, Diamond Plate bed caps, Stainless Steel Running bars, and a Line-X bedliner.
I want to do something different this time, but I still want the functionality of using my truck bed (I had a choice of an 05 Mustang or this truck, and I went with the truck for functionality)
Right now I am looking at covers, but I want something removable. I looked at the Lund Genesis Tri-Fold Top ($340), a RollBak Alum. Retracting Top ($790) the Extang No snap cover ($220) and a few electric retracting tops ($1500)
Has anyone ever used these? Seen them? Owned one? Good/Bad/Other?
I'm also looking at Liners, at a BedRug or Line-X. If I do go with Line-X, I'm going to cut some pieces of plastic in some shapes (logos, flames) and glue them in before spraying, to give a custom effect.
Anyone had a BedRug? Once again, Good/Bad/Other?

Id say go with a soft cover, I have a hard cover over my bed and I hate messing with that thing like when I have to take it off of the truck its a big pain, I hardly ever even lift it up.

 

Where did you get the Amp Research Fold-A-Trunk? Last I heard, they were an exclusive through Mazda dealers.

 

Thats where I got mine from. Just went to the local dealer's part shop, ordered it, and they called when it showed up. I did have to modify it because its made to fit with a drop in bed liner. If you look at the pics, there is a small 1 1/2" gap between the bottom of the box and the truck bed on the sides. I also had to put a piece of plywood under the middle section so it didn't bow. Looked nice when it was done though.

Thats definately why I don't want a fiberglass cover. Such a pain.
Kinda leaning toward the trifold right now, so I can use the money for a avic-n2 head unit. ($2000 or so)

 

I love my Extang 'Classic Platinum' tonneau. I had one on the last truck too and it was one of the first accessories I bought for this new one. My buddy has a snapless one on his Nissan. After ~2 winters it is already starting to deform and not hold the corners very well. Although his is some no-name cheapie, not a quality maker..

 

Most will do that if you don't use 303 protectant or something similar on them. Particularly if you use ArmorAll or some other silicone oil type treatment. The plasticizers will go away untreated, and quicker with silicone oils, and the tonneau will get harder and shrink.

But why do you want "bed ideas" -- why would anyone want "bed ideas"...I think we all want GOOD ideas!

I am looking at getting the fold-a-cover actually...contacted one of the distributors by e-mail with a ?...but have not yet received a reply...perhaps you would know Mr. Novak...i have an under-the-rail bed liner from Ford...could I still install the fold-a-cover? the only places the liner goes over are on the front lip and the top of the tailgate...thanks

You can call me George, Gary or El Guapo. I also have the Ford under rail bedliner, and the Fold-a-cover works great with it. It actaully makes the product easier to install, since you rivot the locking hardware to the bedliner, not the sides of the bed. Makes the job very easy. If you look at my pics, you can see my bedliner under the cover.
