I used Rustoleum Hammered Black Paint from Wal-Mart. It's like $5 a can, and there haven't been any chips or anything taken out of it, and it really makes it look a lot better.

I just painted mine Monday. You can use Krylon Fusion and achieve great results.

Seriously....

i took the grille out of the shell, cleaned it good. and sprayed it. no adhesion promoter or nothing, but i'd suggest it. I painted it a good 3+ years ago and it's still black and could use another shoot here sometime.

I'm trying to find my damn pic that i had with the grille.

EDIT: (found lil bro's trucks pics but not mine. lol)

before(factory grey):

after(fusion satin black):

Would you be better off to use a primer of some sort?

If you use Krylon Fusion which is for painting plastic, you don't need to do any prep or spray any primers or basecoats. Just clean the plastic and paint it.
