painting/replacing grille

I have a 2001 ford edge. My grille is getting very faded. Its supposed to be black but now its a faded gray.

Would it be a good idea to paint it?
if so how to remove it and what to paint it with...

or

Would it be better to buy one?

I painted mine with krylon fusion satin black. Clean it really well, take the grille off the truck, tape off the middle part from the grille surround, and do a few light coats. My guess, if it's anything like the 04's, it's a few bolts at the top and a couple clips on the bottom to get it off.

Thanks

I was also wondering if anyones taken off and painted thier door/tailgate handles.

I'm trying to get this truck back to that clean black on white look. but right now its grey on white haha

All the trim is still good, and i get a new bumper any day now because I was rear ended awhile back. Good thing too because my bumper had a lot of rust on it.

I actually painted all the plastic on mine. door handles, tail gate handle, bumper cover, fog light "grilles", and the grille itself. It looks a LOT better. I just left mine on the truck, taped it off, put a lot of paper around it, and taped that off, and hoped the wind didn't blow. If you are careful, you won't get overspray.

I know what you mean about the faded gray, it looks terrible. I am very happy with the way mine turned out. Except for some very minimal overspray on my passenger side window.... oops. haha

did you use krylon fusion satin black for all the painting?

How do you get pix up here, i need to show my truck, its a white 2001 edge, aside from painting all plastic i was planning on these mods...

In order of priority

1. Headlight mod

(and if the mod looks good)

2. Black rims

3. Paint my toolbox black as well.

Make a photobucket account. And just copy/paste the Image code into your thread. It'll be the one that starts with [IMG]. And yes, I used the satin black for all of it. I have pictures of it somewhere. Might search my threads for my mods/pics thread. The pics I took of it aren't really good tho.

Watch out if you remove the grille/shell from the truck; the clips break and the portion of the shell that extends under the headlights can crack or break off.
There are six clips on the lower edge of the shell that need to be pulled out, I do not know if there is a release for them but I could do it, I had to pull them out.

wow, there are 6 clips on the older grilles? Mine only has 2 on the bottom and the 4 screws on top, and pretty easy to get off.
