I have a Pop&Lock PL8200 power tailgate lock. It has been working fine for about 3 years.

Probably thru the tailgate into the taillight well, down chassis into the cab. Not a hard mod at all.

That would be a good idea, keeps people out.

I ran the wire pair down inside the tailgate to the lower passenger side corner, then down through a connector to the PS frame rail, then forward along the frame rail and drilled a hole for a grommet into the cab area above the footwell. Then tapped them into the power lock wires under the PS kick panel.

your taillights mount from inside the truck bed?

I also have the pop lock auto tailgate lock. Was easy to install but it rattled when I would close the tailgate so I used some foam and packed it around it, then used some spray foam to fill in another other areas, making sure the moving parts were free to move.

I love it, one of the cheapest most useful mods I have done, well worth it especially with a tonneau cover.
