so i had the stock fog lights in my truck, and as usual they were all smashed and gone. so i went to my local walmart and picked up a $30 pair. it came with a bunch of wires and a diagram, but i took a shortcut. wired it straight into the old system.

Each of the new fog lights came with a pos and neg wire coming right out of the back, so I did some thinking, and decided to crawl under the truck with my DVOM, probe the old connectors and see which pin was positive. Corresponded it to the male part of the old connectors, which i chopped off the old lights, and then did some stripping and soldering.




Separated the pos and neg wire off the old connector, stripped them and soldered them into the wires they gave me with the new lights. Not the prettiest, but i didn't have any heat shrink tubing.



Did a temporary mount and test.



Ended up having to file the holes a bit bigger on the back, but i got them mounted and working good. i have the wires tied up out of the way now, not hangin like these pics.





^^^^^^^^Can someone please tell me what the hell the connector on the end of that orange wire is for??? i cant figure it out. its capped off.

and finally, BRIGHT LIGHTS!!!


havent driven anywhere in the dark yet to test them good. i'll get around to it. and yes i know my license plate is showing. Its also showing to the thousands of ppl behind me on the roads everyday. i don't care. so that was my one hour project last weekend. This weekend, i'm getting my grille back in a nice gloss black from my bro, and i'm painting my fender flares black to match the truck. i'll be sure to put that up to.

 

they look good, make sure you go out at night and point your truck against a wall and aim em down and out so they dont blind people and actually work like fog lights!

I did the same thing (used Wally World's larger off road lights) when I lost one of my OEM lenses.
Now I need to switch my wiring for my fog lights & my "behind the grill" lights so I can run fog lights with the high beams on.

Thanks. yea i thot about that, but i hate doing wiring (this little bit was okay, easy) so im just gonna leave taht stuff stock.
I looked on ebay but for some reason could find any that were less than $30 a piece. so i was at walmart picking up some oil and saw these. thanks i really like the look of them to. better than what was there. i have a BEFORE picture:

Nice work, good write up and please do not think I am criticizing.
Only one thing and "if it is as you want it to be then tell me to go FO".
Your wire splicing, I hope you soldered and made a good mechanically solid connection and the biggest thing the TAPE, the biggest no-no in wiring history.
TAPE will wear out, tape will allow road S*** in and cause corrosion, tape will in the long run cause you more trouble than it is worth.
Take some time, get some good quality Heat Shrink with adhesive in it and make sure the connections are good and solid mechanically and solder the joints then shrink the heat shrink until the glue comes out the ends; now you have a waterproof connection and not worries about will it work or now my lights don’t work how come…

You took the time to do it right and write it up so all can read and follow so go to the Ninth Gate and get’r’done so you will have no problems later on.

 

No problem. i dont mind some ideas or constructive criticism. i definitely soldered it good, i've tried just holding things together with tape before, and it doesn't work. I'm not 100% worried about getting heat shrink tubing yet, i'll probably do it while its up in the air for my next oil change, and i have until October to worry about major road salt, so it should hold up fine for now. i have the wires tied out of harms way for the most part. well, i pulled in the drive way the other night and decided to light them up, they lit up the treeline from top to bottom almost from about 60 yards away!! very bright, and i'm satisfied with them.

 

I had those same ones back in the day!

I guess so! thanks guys!! and actually just 20 minutes ago i just got done wiring my truck up for a 4 pin trailer. was simple as can be with the kit i got from Advance auto. just unplug where the rear harness goes together, plug in the adapter, screw in a ground wire, and good to go!! will be testing it on a trailer tomorrow. For now i'll tow on the bumper, i don't plan on towing over a ton anyways, and i'm askin the folks for a hitch for my B-day which is coming up!!! so hopefully i'll have a full tow package soon :D
