Really depends on where you go and what kind of a paint job you get. I wouldnt see a standard paint job for your truck being more than 400 or 500 dollars, maybe even less.

ha ha ha that couldnt be further from the truth unless youre talking about a maaco paintjob. a few things to consider when doing a complete color change, especially on a truck is all the areas that need to be painted. if its done right not only does the exterior of the truck get painted but also the inside of the bed, the bed needs to be removed to paint the back of the cab and the front of the box, the door jams, inside of doors, under the hood, radiater support, inside the fenders ect. that all adds labor wich is the biggest factor in the cost. labor rates around my area are in the 60-80 per hour range. then take into consideration paint and material costs and youll be looking at $500-$600 ranger JUST for that depending on color. a complete job done right will cost you anywher from $1500-$4000 depending on the shop. also beware of the $300 jobs from places like maaco. they skip important steps like masking off windows and trim. ha ha theyre paint jobs are a joke, ive seen a few in person.

I agree with Patrick on this one.

If you're not too concerned about quality and are just looking for a better look then what you have currently described, a cheap paint job is all you need. If your serious about changing colours and want a really good job, you'll be paying for it.

My g/f got her Civic repainted red and got the hood replaced and body work done to the rear quarter panels and trunk area and it was $1000. We know the body shop guy and he gave us a good deal. It was an afterhours job.

For any good job, it's all in the prep work. Masking and removing parts, as well as prepping the paint surfaces to accept the new paint.

To have my 94' prepped and painted (I had 75% of the body work/panel straightening done) with my paints and primers, it cost me about $3800. That was with a discount from knowing the owner of the shop, and having the truck started on the day before labour rates jumped $3/hr. Around here my price was a steal, everywhere else quoted me near $5-6k.

In the autobody world, you get what you pay for. No question

If you're not going for show quality, and just want to hide the scratches and stuff. A cheap same colour job will do. It's cheaper to go with a same colour job then changing them.

There's always the flat black rattle can trick.....LOL
