Rear Offroad Bumper prototype

I have been looking for a rear bumper to match my front for sometime now and found Mike a C4x4 was willing to work with me on developing a production bumper that did not cost an arm and a leg.

We have been going back and forth on the design cues and he is getting close to having a final design finished up so I thought I would share some pictures and see what you guys thought.

The bumper is the same dimensions as the stock bumper with tucked in corners. The final version will have recovery points and a receiver hitch under the bumper as well as LED reverse lights.

I will keep you posted as it gets closer to finished. The brackets still need to be finalized to bring the bumper down slightly so the tail gate clears better.

Looks good, are the LEDs optional? Also I'm a fan of what GM did with the steps in the ends. Is that an idea? It would help lifted trucks. Even stock is a little of a stretch to get into when the tailgate is down.

I'm sure its possible to put the steps in, and ya the LEDs and Hitches were at my request. when he does a "production" bumper my guess is d- rings along the frame mounts and no secondary hitches, reverse lights will be optional like the front bumpers. Email him and ask if your interested hes a solid guy and a great fabricator.

Looks good. Do you know yet what the weight/price will be?

One suggestion would be to move the receiver up and out of the way. You could put it behind the license plate with a folding plate bracket.

DangerRanger96 01-02-2014 09:37 PM

what are the extra recievers for?

The pricing will be on par with the front bumpers, its a great value for the time and effort going into building them.

I wanted the receiver under so I don't have to move my plate, its easy to drag it on the ground, and with it built in to the bumper theres less to catch. Easy to move if you want it somewhere else.

one hitch will be a my fold down tire carrier with gas the other will be a D ring. That's why they are so close in so the tire does not cover the tail light.

Should clean thing up really well, just need to build a new shorter tire carrier for this bumper, to keep the tire and gas low.

yes!

not quite but it will be nice to have my receiver open for my bike rack and my trailer instead of having to take my tire carrier off.

Scrambler82 01-03-2014 07:03 AM

My rear bumper for a Steppie from c4x4 was in the 90 range, this one should be somewhere around that.

I was very impressed with Custom 4x4 Fabrication, Mike is a very good fabricator, does quality work, but olds with thicker metal than most bumper manufacturers AND does a high quality work, his welding is top end all the way.

The only other thing to say is his prices are far below the norm, call him if you are thinking about a rear plate bumper for your ranger! you can't beat it.

timbits588 01-03-2014 10:17 AM

I am working with mike right now on some reinforcement brackets for the bumper the main ones fit perfect but the truck he was mocking up on did not have the upper receiver holes so we will be working on those for added strength.

Next is a tire carrier rebuild to clean it up and lower it down.

01RangerEdge 01-11-2014 03:30 PM

That looks great.

Fx4wannabe01 01-11-2014 03:40 PM

NICE!! I almost shot a text to bug ya yesterday! lol.

Super neat idea with the 3 receiver holes. Don't know why I didn't notice them before.

So I know a guy with a dented chrome bumper and this guy also really digs your current spare carrier. This dude also rocks a canopy. Just a heads up if the old one stays intact. lol.
