Removing badges from a 2009, just glue?

Does anyone know if the tailgate and fender emblems on a 2009 XL are just glued on or do they also have the little posts? My emblems look like crap and I want to remove them and just leave them off but before I start I just wanna know if there's holes in the sheet metal behind them.

Fender badges have 2 posts and tailgate badges have none, all are glued in place with double sided adhesive - at least that's how it was when this style badge debuted in 2006. Also, under each fender badge, the 2006 had a dimple/hole between the other two holes, all of which would not look so good uncovered. Again, I couldn't say the 2009 is the same but it's a good bet that it is.

Here are the fender holes and dimple:

Eh I guess I'll just remove the tailgate emblem and leave the fender badges alone. I don't want to spend money replacing them and definitely don't want ugly holes in my fender. Thanks for the info!

How are you going to release the adhesive ?

Is there a chemical compound to apply and let set... so to speak ?

I am interested in painting my Fender Emblems but don't want to do it on the vehicle, so removing them becomes the main thing.

If their on with double sided tape, then it's strong tape by 3M. Very strong, but easily removed with a heat gun or a hair blow dryer. Medium heat setting and just heat around the permiter of the emblem.
As it heats up tape adhesive will soften and you can start pulling it off. You can then use mineral spirits to remove the residue.
Replacement 3M tape is available at any Auto Zone, Advance Auto, O Reilly, Amazon. Just make sure you get 3M Automotive grade attachment tape.

Thanks for that.

I found some new badging on e-Bay, two-toned black with an SVT under the right end.

Just different.

I will try the heat gun and see how that works out !
