Icon5 Removing a Ford emblem

Hey guys,

I guess this is kind of a "noobe" question.
I'm getting ready to install the larger 2006 + emblem to my tailgate and I need to remove the smaller 1993-2005 blue oval Ford emblem from my tailgate and I was just wondering what's the easiest way to do this without scratching the paint and what kind of adhesive remover should I use to avoid removing the paint?

I use fishing line for mine to get it off and a eraser wheel to remove the adhesive. There are 2 holes under the little emblem though, fyi

weld the holes. And to get the goo off use acid tone. I used it on my truck when I put the 06 Badging on the front quarter panels. it worked awesome.

I haven't tried the fishing line method...yet.

I removed a hatch emblem from an explorer with a plastic putty knife & some goo gone.

The little holes are for locating the pins on the emblem & if you're putting the new emblem over the old location, you'll cover the holes anyway.

Yeah, Goo Gone ... that's the stuff I was thinkin of. No offence, but I would be a little afraid to acetone becuase that stuff smells just like nail polish remover.

Now I know why most of the guys that did the 2006 tailgate mod. put the emblem on the right instead of the left. I think I'm still going to put mine on the drivers side and put a Ranger sticker on the passenger side to cover up the two holes. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of sticker I can use?

Yeah, I forgot about the rust ... I'll just use some plugs.
