Not sure whether to replace or powdercoat or paint,Rhinoline my rusted step bars.I can assume any aftermarket step bar wouldn't last as long as original and since my original bars are rusted, the rust would return after a period of time, I can't make a sound decision. What's your take on this and what direction have some of you taken?

 

I would eliminate the step bars all together, and see how you like your truck without them.

With a fairly stock truck it seems to me they would only make it more difficult to get in and out of the truck. ( however I am 6 foot 3 a shorter person may need them )

 

I was going to remove them when I got the truck and the wifey threw a hissy fit.That's why I was asking for suggestions.Kinda hoping someone with a reg.cab would chime in and say they love the bars they bought or someone who grinded theirs off and bed lined them or they had theirs powder coated and cost x amount of dollars and they turned out great. But I do appreciate you taking time to answer my post.

 

You can remove the bars and keep the wife happy.

Did you get the black or Stainless steel ?

Looking at your all black truck I probably know the answer LOL.

If those bars are open on both ends and have a unfinished bare metal tube on the inside, you may consider taping off the finished powder coated exterior cleaning the interior with a long flexible cylinder brush and cleaner, then treat the bare metal with Ospho and coat the interior with some sort of durable paint.

But I guess they are cheap enough to replace once in awhile when needed.

 

I bought the black ones,if I can get to the inside might shoot the inside with oil.More than likely will just install and see how they stand up.Only drive minimal in the Winter and get lots of under carriage car washes.I only average 3500 miles a year on the truck. Are only vehicle and it really likes the gas with the 4:10's. Buy local or online.
