I'm just making one, it's not hard at all. Cheap harbor freight pipe bender, black gas pipe from hardware store, a welder, and some paint. My shop makes custom one's for Rhinos and such all the time.

All the ones i've seen are around $200. If you have access to a welder then the bender and tubing would cost about $150 and after a little work you get a custom rack you built exactly how you wanted it. Plus you have another tool! I'm building one for my truck but it will be mounted differently, not exactly on the roof. Just like you I wanted a place to put a shovel and axe, and I'll keep my spare tire up there.

well ive seen one ranger running around were i live with kinda like a construction rack you know like what they put ladders on an stuff cuz they wont fit in the bed of the truck accept it wasnt so shabby looking but this guy had a nice rack on top of it with some kc's all the ways across it with a hi-jack on one side a axe on the other an like a shovel and ect. mounted on the bottom of it with a spare tire on it an he still managed to have room for a tool box that just set me on fire looking for something like thisbut i like that roof mounted one alot

I was thinking something kinda like this:

But mine wont go as far back because I need to be able to load my dirtbike still. The basket will be mounted on the rear rack and hang over the cab. Lights will be mounted on the front and rear of the basket, lots of them. Axe and shovel on one side, hi-lift jack on the other. Spare tire up top and will have a little cargo room.

Ya, i think full length racks are really ugly in most cases, I have seen a couple good ones but not many. That's why the rear pillar of my rack is only going about a 3rd of the way back. I have all the material including lights but I wish I just had more time to get all my mods done...

There are quite a few you can get online that are in the $150 range.

Do yourself a favor if you get one and mount it properly! Unless the one shown in the pics above has support added where it's mounted, it has NO real support.

FWIW, what you're wanting is commonly called a roof basket not a roof rack.
