you should just get a junk insert like the 04+ honeycomb ones and test fit with it to see if it will even work.

Good idea, I will look around the JY and see if I can borrow one.

I am sure with the measurements in the above post I can get by.

I think it will have a good look.

Thanks

id rather cut up a insert like the honeycomb one that you can find anywhere than jumping right in with a stx.

x2... i wish i could put your honeycomb on my truck... but with the high center hood, i would have a huge gap... i just wanted a grille that i could put lights behind... the honeycomb would be 10x better, but they don't make one for my shape grill/hood, without the nostrils

i'm thinking that cutting it is going to look like crap, you will have half of a suround... i would photo shop it for you, but my computer is broken and in the shop

Does the Ford Emblem have the usual mounting base on the STX ?
If so and if one bar had to be removed, then the center bar would have to go.
I don’t like the CHROME around the grille because it kind of shouts at you but the painted shell from the 03 EDGE would look good with the thick cross bars.
My best bet is just hoping one comes in as a rear-end wreck and of course I get it cheap, then cutting it up won’t be a biggy.
The rain should stop today so I will be out there measuring and then the hunt really starts or maybe it won’t.
thanks to all for the info and keep it coming.

I don’t doubt it, that usually happens to me.
BUT, looking at the grille posted in vista’s pic, the chrome rim looks like it is the same as the outer shell on my 03 grille.
I am talking out my @ss at the moment without going out to measure things but it does look similar in shape, again I just want to replace the insert not the whole shell and if removing one bar is the only thing I need to do then great.

Thanks for the input I will get to it today sometime and figure out if I can do it.

from looking at pictures of the two inserts it appears that the 01 to 03 is completely different for mounting.

The outer shape firthe 2 grills should be identical, as the 2 trucks use the same headlights and corner lights, not to mention that they are the same width, fender to fender

Mounting yes, I do not know, but the insert shape is what I was looking at.
I too think it is close to the 03 shape.
After dinner I will measure, I know, Not Yet !

That’s it, but I am not even sure if it will fit yet.

I was going to check and things came up, but hopefully tomorrow.

Nice pic of the grille.

sonicbluestx, your pic is not crappy, it is pretty good. But isn't Scrambler82's truck an 03 and your truck is an 04+?

OK, my point is that the grilles are not interchangeable. I have a grille that is similar to sonicbluestx's grille that I purchased for my truck that I am not using. It looks similar to his and is "supposed" to fit 03 trucks, but it does not look like it will fit mine so I didn't even try to swap it.

edog, Show me… pics please.

I measured and the 05 STX Grille should work in the opening, it may need mods to rework the mounting but the opening is the main thing and from what I measured it is the same.
Sooooo, if I can find one that I can use as a dummy I can mock it up and see.
Step 1) Measure opening for fit - same measurements as posted earlier.
Step 2) Find a grille to test out - Pending
Step 3) Buy 05+ STX Grille - Pending
Step 4) Install same Grille purchased in Step 3)… - Pending

Well i am by step 1; who has one for sale INEXPENSIVELY !

sonic - nice picture, color is nice.

I will get pics tomorrow. The grille is not here at this time. But you may be able to find pictures on line, it is a Roush Thunderbolt grille.

OK thanks

Checked it out on-line but it is not what I am looking for.
It has the surround/bezel as part of the grille; this would defeat the ’03 Grille shell/Pwr Dome Hood.

Thanks but no thank you.
