TRS Acme Projectors
 

Looking at the Acme Super H1 projectors from TRS. According to the TRS web site these are an older Morimoto design, so good quality, but older technology which is fine with me. I drive a Ranger, after all so we are all familiar with good quality in an older tech.

Internet searches do not find a whole lot on these projectors other then the sales's pitch. My gut says these would be a no brainer as compared to the cheap stuff on eBay or Amazon for not really a lot less money.

So my question, is by chance anyone have any experience either first or second hand with these?

I am not made of money (who is) and this is my first retro so not looking to dump a lot of money for high end components right now.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

most projectors are made in china, so there's a ton of companies selling the same things on alibaba/ebay.

the gist of the acme line is trs was starting to understand they were loosing a lot of money to people that didn't care about the name brand, but just wanted cheaper products, and were buying off amazon/ebay/alibaba.

trs' main morimoto line is supposed to have higher quality build, and they're supposed to test and tune each projector for it's best output, so there should be less defects with a morimoto-brand product over any other product of similar specification. the morimoto line also gets the latest-greatest version, where the acme lags a version behind. so that's where the price difference comes into play--newer version, supposed to be better quality standard, and supposed to be custom tuned for output(i can't say if these things are actually happening, that's just how they market them.

will you notice a difference? probably not. the h1 projector has been one of the best selling projectors for a very long time, so they are very vested in keeping it up to date. just about any version after 4.0 is quite good, the newer versions are just extra icing on the cake in terms of hotspot pattern and light spread.



the biggest reason to buy from trs over alibaba/ebay/etc is because they maintain a support system if there's a problem, and they're US-based, so replacement part shipping actually gets to people within the same month.. it's the same as buying electronics from crutchfield-- everything they sell is cheaper elsewhere if you don't need the support system they offer..
