vacuum reservoir

So I have a 1998 ford ranger 4.0 4x4. I just purchased it. Anyhow the guy who had it before me installed a 60,000 mile engine and apparently whomever installed it forgot to put in the vacuum reservoir. I ordered the part and installed it however, I'm still having trouble with the A/C switching to defrost? Did I connect the tubing incorrectly? Any ideas? Would a picture help you guys out?? If I switch the power settings of flow it seems to switch to coming out of the vents from defrost but thats the only way i'm able to re-direct the flow of air. Any other details I left out to help you guys help me?
