using ladder rack as light bar?
I got one for free, but it doesn't look like anything more than square tubing that goes up and across the width of the truck.
How do lights usually mount? Is there any way I can just clamp some off-road lights on? |
any pictures of this thing? or a make and model so we can look it up to what ur talking about?
you dont want to just 'clamp' lights on the truck as theyll either vibrate off or be stolen,. better to bolt them on. |

Yeah, most lights mount with usually a 1/2 stud, so drilling a hole would be necessary. If you're going to use that i would mount the lights upside down so it doesn't look way too tall, that would probably look better, and cut the tabs off on the top.
and here is a picture to kinda see how they mount better http://www.kartek.com/prod-windows/a...d/kch-1237.jpg the bar of the rack would go inbetween the two rubber shock mount things |
I don't know if the bolts are long enough to go through that thick of a piece of metal... no to mention those drill bits aren't very cheap...
|
yes definately upside down and cut the tabs off
|
why not just shorten the bars?
it would work but it kinda ugly sticking up that far |

i agree just cut a section off the top and weld it a little shorter, get rid if the tabs too, i have a rack on my cap made of similar material, i am thinking about getting a plate that i can bolt to it and then mount the lights to the plate, i don't think the studs wouls be long enough to go through the rack itself, then if i wanted to i could remove all the lights at once

If you have access to a welder, why dont you just make a new bar?
