Can you paint the textured fender flares?

I am wanting to get rid of all the chrome on my truck and paint everything black, but has anyone successfully painted the FX4 style flares with any luck, They are the most expensive part of getting rid of chrome and painting everything...

I was thinking black spray...but it might look like poooo, my truck is black and blue though...I like the bedliner but its just chipping too easy...

I think I might redo it and use black primer instead of promoter this week.

I painted the plastic rails with Krylon Fusion, wouldn't that work on the flares too? It'll still be textured, not the smooth painted look, and obviously not bedliner material... but if you're trying to just achieve the black that would do it.

I did the plastic bumper piece on my truck in satin black Krylon Fusion. Came out really good, looks stock, and dried really fast. That's how I'd paint it, unless you want it matched to the paint.

it can be done john "wvcat" painted a textured valance for both of our trucks and it turned out smooth but it does chip pretty easy.

you could pm him to find out how he did.

Seems like the way to go...I'm thinking about linex on the flares...that will never chip.

I havn't any chips or anything with my bedliner on my flares or valence and bumper....... I guess I prepped them correctly and sprayed 'em right?

TrePaul86's valence and flares are his stock ones....grey textured. A shop sanded them down to smoothness, sprayed on a product just like duplicolor adhesion promotor, then primer, then on went the color(Silver). Then on went the clear coat then the pieces were baked in an oven to speed up the cure time. Check out this truck....it's pretty cool lookin' all Edgeified.

Yea Tre's truck is real sick with the EDGE look going on. I would like to color match mine to my truck but I worry it would be to dark DWB all the way around could be hit or miss ya never know.

Let us know if you try and get them done man

I want it to match my truck's gloss. Plus my truck has a few flaws that need to be addressed anyway

I would just use the adhision promoter, than the Krylon fusion spray paint. You can get it in a gloss finish, but get it in flat black, then do 3-4 coats of clear over it. I think the clear coat is the key, it will act like a buffer before getting to the actual paint. That is how I am going to do mine when it warms up enough.

I have had mine painted for almost 2 and a half full years...i used xylene, adhesion promotor, primer, and then the spray...worked great and held up for about a year, but after that...went down the drain

I painted mine yesterday....

Just saw this thread from many moons ago, and thought I'd share some pics of what I did last night. The fender flares were the same color as the body, and I used the Canadian Tire version of plasti-dip. If anyone's interested, I'll post pics at the end of a good 'ol Canadian winter..
