dome light wont turn on when door is open

ok, so I've had this problem since I bought the truck. when you open the door, the dome/map light, plus my ohc light wont turn on. now, my passenger side DID work. when you opened the door, all the lights turned on. but it no longer does it. so now when I open both doors, my lights never turn on. not sure if there is a sensor of some sort? also, I know in my moms car, and my sister, when you roll the dimmer so far, the lights turn on, mine don't. any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks.

alright, so I located the door switch thingy, took it to oreillys, and all the ones they have in stock look nothing like mine. he tested it and it appears to work and not be sticking. he called the ford stealership and they want 75$ for the whole door latch mechanism. so I'm probably going to end up going to the junkyard and getting one. any other advice or help would be appreciated. thanks.

i would start with tracing the wires at the points were they could be pinching or rubbing and checking for broken wires.

went to oreillys, and they tested everything. since my dimmer switch wont turn my lights on, he told me to replace the dimmer module.. but I got quoted 90$. so I'm going to hit up the junkyard here shortly and see if I can get a deal on one. if thats not my problem, then I'm just gonna say screw it, and forget about it.

wow... I had this same problem. Come to find out, it was one of the fuses. There is a fuse just for the dome light. Might want to check that.

I ordered a replacement door switch from ebay, new for around 15 dollars shipped to my front door, best investment so far.

I checked all the fuses reid. even had the guy at oreillys test light all of them. I was told it was my dimmer module. when I get my parts truck here tonight, first thing I'll do in the morning is switch over dimmer modules and see if thats the problem. for some reason my drivers door switch is different than my passenger. but if the dimmer module doesn't do the trick, I may just swap doors from parts truck and see if it is indeed the door switches.

I had the same problem but I just figured out what was wrong with mine. That wire that connects to that harness was cut just a little and cut off the power. It didnt even look like it was cut in half but it sure was

well the dimmer didn't do anything.. so my next try is going to be dropping the head liner and checking the wire.. I wouldn't be surprised if its melted.
