another thread for the diablosport tuner

picked one up today.

long story short, in order for the ford dealer to honor my warranty for my tranny, i needed to make sure my speedo was calibrated for the larger tires, or bring it in on stock tires. not wanting to make my truck look ridiculous i started calling offroad shops to see if they could do it for me. all they could do was sell me a tuner. well i called 4wheel parts and the guy that answered said he had a good friend selling the diablosport predator for an 07/08 ranger. SWEET! scored it for 200 bucks.

even with my truck barely drivable how it is (no reverse basically) it feels a ton better then it did when i had my xcal 3. and im just on the 87 oct perf tune right now so i could adjust the tire size. when i get the truck back from the dealer and regear it, im gonna step up to the 91 octane tune.

but already there's a huge difference! i'd personally recommend it over the xcal.. :x

cliffnotes: scored a diablosport predator and it kicks ***.

Does the xCal come with canned tunes? I thought you had to get it custom tuned.

the xcal lets you choose from 3 tunes you want ithink. i believe the diablosport is the same but idk since i bought it from a guy here. my xcal came from doug at bamachips and honestly i didn't notice much other then higher shift points and no speed limiter.

but you can store up to 5 custom tunes in the diablosport i beleive

Oh ok, yeah if you got it from doug it came with 'custom' tunes lol. Glad the diablo worked for you though!

xcal should have let you change your tire size?

I have the Xcal 2 and sometimes I think about selling it and getting the Diablo. I guess it all depends on the tunes and not necessarily the tuner though.

its definitely the tune itself that matters.

i just felt a better difference compared to what it felt like with the xcal.. lol

Probably a stupid question, but if you were to buy the Predator brand new... do you just plug it in and it already has codes out of the box? I've only ever played around with chips as my Mustang is pre-OBD2 so I've never got into the handheld tuner stuff before.

so i upped the shift pressure today. as firm as i could get. under normal driving it shifts smooth as butter, but at WOT or close to it, the shifts are enough to snap your neck back!

Still, without having all the fancy shift firmneses and shift timing is there any point in getting one of these for a manual truck?

I think it'd still be worth it for the performance tunes and ability to adjust your speedometer for tire/gear changes.
