What year 3.0L in 04 Ranger

Does anyone know what all year models I can pull a 3.0L motor out and put in a 04 ranger? Looking to just replace the one i blew up. Do not mind swapping my top end (i.e. intanke, etc..), just want to know which long blocks will work.

Thanks!!!

any as long as your swap all your stuff over. that includes egr if you have one and all that little junk.

i'd look for an 04-05 if i were you though.

I was gonna treat anyone I got as a long block and use as much off mine as possible (learned that lesson long ago)

People are telling me Taurus engines will work, but that doesn't sound right to me, can anybody verify?

Seems like the motor mount bosses would be in different places, etc..

Yep all 3.0 Vulcans will work. Main diff on them is the upper intake/throttle body. But if your just needing the long block that's no problem.

That's what I would think, and of course I found several low mileage Taurus engines, but no Ranger ones yet..

actually, you might want to do more research on that, there was someone else who asked about swapping a taurus engine into a ranger and I believe they are a match on the trans.
you have to consider this from the perspective of Ford, why make the exact same engine (3.0l Vulcan) for both the Ranger and the Taurus, yet make the blocks different, that would mean making 2 different moldings for the block casing, which doesnt make sense from a business perspective.
instead, wouldnt it just be cheaper to make the trans for both vehicles able to mount up to the same engine in the same way ?
I would def look into it more if I was you.

I'm with d0sitmatr on this to. I think any 3.0 will swap in just use your sensors oil pan ect...that are specific to your ranger and i think you should be fine. I am currently looking for a 3.0 myself for my 94 for a summer project since mine has over 235k already. I talked to a guy in florida that has a 3.0 for $500 shipped and only 47k said it was from a 04 ranger and he is positive it would fit in mine. He also mentioned that the aero star and taurus would fit also....he said all the 3.0's were the same. Hope that helps!
