custom center console

so i did the 60/40 to 40/40 seat conversion.

now my next project will be making a custom center console. what i want is, a place for a 10inch JL sub i bought today, and cup holders.

my questions are:

what else should i have?
how should i design it?
what kinds of center consoles do you guys have?
what do you wish yours had?

pics are a must!!

i will post pictures when its done. should take a few weeks till its done. wont be able to work on it till my friend whoes dad is Mr. wood-making-man is finished restoring his 197X BMW.

I know this is damn near impossible, but try and find a Tremor center console with the built in sub from the factory (then upgrade the sup of course)

Personally, I wouldn't have done what he did above. It's to much of a common area. I would put the bass on the backside of the console facing inward or outward (probably outward). I was going to make my own console with an 8", but I never went through with it.

I built my own custom center console. It doesnt have a sub, but what it does have is abig cubby space up front that I love, is very convenient. I have a little slot for my IPOD where the chord can come up from underneath to plug it into my head unit. It also has a huge storage space under the armrest. The biggest flaw is the cup holders are one size, which is too small for a lot of drinks. I need to work out a better design for them. And it is rhino lined which makes it durable and easy to touch up.

I actually attempted to fiberglass it, but I couldnt get it smooth, so I just bedlined it. Thats why there are some ins and outs. I learned a lot in the process though. I love it though, very useful and durable, and I was able to make use of the factory armrest, which with the old console was sagging a lot.

Jacob: How did you fasten it all together? With a framing stapler, screws, finish nails? I see some screw heads, but I'm just curious if that's how you did it.

I want to make one for my Ranger, but I am not sure how I want to put it together, and what all to include as of yet. Still thinking about it.

yeah, thats bullet proof glass. came right out of a liquor store. everything was made out of scrap, and spare. i will be taking the bullet proof off, and painting it with bedliner, and then puting the glass back on. i ordered LEDs tonight, that will go under the frosted glass. should look really nice. im thinking of wiring it up so the LEDs flash with the music. should look awesome.

the 60/40 to 40/40 took a hour and 40 some min, shown from the iphone screen shot. and the sub box, took a hell of a lot more time. not sure how long exactly. about 3-4 hours though. the sub slams hard. at 200 rms, its plenty bass for my needs.

the two holes in thr glass, are cup holders. just above the cup holders, is a storage place. it about 4 inches deep, and looks like it can become very helpfull.

TOTAL COST: $00.00

Not bad, How did you ever cut holes in the glass?

also, Run a router down all the edges to round them off before your done. That will look alot cleaner.

And it might look cool if you finished it off, stained it, and put a good gloss coat on there.

And I think adding a piece to the side, run it against the glass up to the top edge. That would look good I think.

i like the frosted look. i frosted everything but where you can see the sub. so you can see the sub really bump.

the glass took a drill press, and one 3.5 inch metal hole saw.

I used wood glue and drywall screws. The screws arent really necessary in the end, mainly just hold it all together til the glue dries. Make sure to counter sink them though, deep so they are below the surface.

Be careful with those finish nailers, I shot my pinky when I was younger.
it was a long nail, it went through the wood curved and came out where i had my finger.
