Advice On This Welder

2 Attachment(s)
Was just looking for some advice.

A guy contacted me in regards to trading his miller multimatic 200 for my 91 foxbody. My car is a 4 cyl car with 150,000 original miles. Original paint, pretty clean coupe and I was saving to build as it is hard to come across a clean coupe around here in KY for a good price sometimes.

He said it is only a couple years old and used a handful of times. Has the mig/tig/stick attachments with bottle setup.

Just curious what you all think about this trade. I've really been wanting a nice welding setup but I am obviously worried about what happens if I get it and 6 months goes by and it quits working. My car runs and drives and can be used as a daily driver if wanted. So what do you all think about the trade? If somethings happens to the welder or it stops working are repairs possible for a good price? etc.

Thanks

What's the car worth vs the Welder ?

Do you need a welder or a car ?

I have a Miller MIG Welder and like it so this could be a good welder.

Check out there site and see how old it might be.
Get the serial number of the welder and see if there is a manufacture date or contact Miller.
Then make your call.

Luck,

Luck,

I dont NEED either one lol, they are both a luxury.

I was going to build this car but right now I am very busy, and it would be nice to get a good welding setup finally. I was just hoping some on the forum were more experienced in the welding world and could give me a general idea of what they think that machine setup is worth, reliability, parts if it breaks, etc.

As far as car value who knows it all depends on the person and location. You could get some people that might pay 2500 for it, others wouldn't pay 800 for it. It really just depends.

Mine being able to be a daily driver, hardly any rust at all, etc happy medium maybe 1500-2000.

The welder plus tig/stick setup is around 2000 brand new, but of course that is brand new.

Good call on the seriel number, I will try and contact them.

well welders can be bought any time, a mustang like that in nice condition probably not.

i personally would trade if you wanted a welder. but thats ur call

If I had to sell one of them, which one do you think would be best to sell and get the most money for and be able to easily sell?

The welder would be easier to sell. Everyone looks for a 5speed 302 fox not auto 4cyl because they don't want to deal with a swap. What fun is that?!

A little work on your part and the Mustang will have more value.

A little work with the welder and the welder goes down in value.

Long term, with upgrade mods, the Mustang should net you more than the welder.

Question is, what do you need now ?

Except me. I'm trying to find a 2.3 for a turbo build but all there is listed is 5.0's lmao.

As he stated he really doesn't need either. I look at it that the welder has the potential to earn a lot more in the long run depending on how much effort he wants to put into learning to use it.

As to fixing up the Mustang. From my past experience and what I've learned from others unless the vehicle is super desirable you'll never recoup what you've sunk into it.

6.2 12-11-2013 08:58 AM

I never understand why people buy/fix cars based on its resale value. If I'm building a car it's for me to enjoy. It's resale value will mean nothing.

The way I see it, it's a 4 banger. It's economical, yet still a mustang. Great daily driver IMO. Fix it up and daily drive it when you don't need to use the ranger. Just think of the gas money you would save

ZWilson07 12-11-2013 01:58 PM

Thanks guys.

I think I am going to just keep the mustang and keep it up for sale.

I appreciate all the insight and opinions.

6.2 you need to come down to KY and buy the car lol.

6.2 12-11-2013 02:45 PM

Haha I would if I had the cash man.

How much you asking? I'm to broke to even consider it, just curious.

ZWilson07 12-15-2013 01:23 PM

$2000

6.2 12-15-2013 01:48 PM

not a bad price.

Its fair for around me.

You will have plenty that will say hell no would I pay that much, that is $500 around here.

Well thats great but I have found with my old ford diesels and foxbody mustangs, locations make a huge difference. Literally thousands of dollars in price difference sometimes.

The goal for me was to get one that needed minimum body work. It was just a plus that it was still turn key and ran and drove well so I could drive it or sell off the drivetrain.

Around here anything that says foxbody and 5.0 cost an arm and 2 legs. A rusted out, high mileage beat to hell 5.0 still brings 3-4 grand all day long. So this was actually a pretty fair deal around me.
