My bumper I'm making.

My bumper I'm making.
I've got the plans/dimensions for it somewhere, but can't find it to scan it. Anywho, I'm making it out of 3/8 wall rectangular tubing. The ends will be tapered up a bit and closed off. I'm welding with stick and using a 7018 rod. This beyotch is HEAVY. I'm going to be cutting a 2x2" hole in the middle of the bumper to be able to slide a receiver in and out for my trailer. S basically it's a hitch and bumper combined. And I'll prob weld some shackles on there too.
I want to give the credit to Kevin (2002fx4) for his bumper idea.
Here are some of the pics of it now, there won't be any more progress on it until Monday and it'll be finished by Thurs.
What I started with:
A little plasma, a little rose bud:
And I grinded for almost an hour, seemed like forever.
Monday's Progress:
I taperd up the sides, but am still going to box it in. Also made the brackets for it. It "should" be mounted on the truck tomorrow, but we'll see how that goes.
Tuesday's Progress:
The mounts are welded to the piece on angle that's made out of the same wall as my bumper. I have 2 bolts holding it on, but there is a 3rd hole that I can work with. I also see quite a few things I can do to strengthen it. I've still got to get them level before I set the bumper up there to tack it in place.**New Plans** The bumper will be capped off on the ends, but only welded shut on one end. The other end will be capped, but will be on a hinge. Since the bumper is 4" wide and 8"tall I'm going to take advantage of that space to put tow straps etc in.
Since I'm going a different route with the bumper, I got this today; FREEBIE!
Wednesday:
After working on it 7 hrs today, I was finally able to get it on the truck after class tonight. I'm really impressed on how it turned out and I can't wait for this weekend to see how it does with a trailer behind it for 1-1.5 hrs. I still need to finish up the small stuff like the end caps, but I'll do that next week. I just really needed to get the bumper and hitch on for this weekend. I highly doubt that this thing is going anywhere after 2 200lb ppl jumped on it, and I mean jumped on it.

Fawk that's HUGE! And I thought mine was overly huge. By the looks I'm gonna guess its about 3"x6".. but it doesn't quite look like 3/8" wall (I could be wrong). I know how heavy my rear bumper is, so I can only imagine the weight of that sucker!
And by the way Brenton, I appreciate the credit given. Mine design isn't actually my design at all, rather a design of my buddy Jason's. I personally think your approach to making the bend is abit more work (even though you are cutting only three sides). But I can certainly feel for you on the grinding, especially with you stick welding. The bead/slag has gotta kill (for grinding purposes).
Keep it up.. I'm curious to see the end result!
