2010 FX4 Bumper Build

Bout time I broke down and did my bumper, here's a few pics just from today, obviously i cut the tubing long so that way I can't **** my angles up :thefinger: Just have the 2 outside corners left to bend, notching the top to continue the grille, and coping the bottoms. More pics will be on the way :icon_welder:

started with 8''x4''x1/4'' wall HSS

Kind of taking shape:

This is where I left it with the tops flushed off, as my brain was starting to hurt lol.

I am incorporating a receiver tube and also going to be bending a stinger out of 2'' standard wall pipe. :icon_thumby:

More progress pics from today, finished off getting the perimeter done, now it's just a matter of coping it out nice and welding it up basically. Still lots of work to go but, I wanted to have the shape solid before i start hacking into it.

Overall shape I decided to go with

Corners, Kept the radius on the tube for that factory bent look

How it sits now at the end of the day. May need to come out just a bit back to 90, might've took a bit too much out..meh

Just for ***** and grins, The man himself

I'm chopping alot out of it. But as a rule I always overkill my steel projects. Plus I couldn't find a 8x4x3/16'' wall So 1/4 it is, Sure it's heavy, I have to crank my torsion bars anyway lol It's gonna be built solid like a brick **** house.

It's closer to 15-20 # per foot, I chose 1/4'' because It will hold up to the heat of welding better than 3/16'', less warping and distortion when I actually weld it up. If i had to guess where it sits now it's probably 150-200 lbs, my headache rack is 3/16'' 2x2 tubing and 1/4'' flatbar, weighs in at 175 lbs.

175lbs?!

Mine weighs like, 70? maybe... thats with the lights on it.

Also, have you thought about mounting lights, IN the bumper?

Also with that much weight on the front end, you may want to upgrade your Tbars,

Screw T-Bars, time for a SAS !!!

I hope to start on my steel bumpers soon, gotta find the time between work and my 6 month old son.

Awesome job on doing the angles too man, top notch job.

I wanna kinda hold off on the front bumper until I do my SAS, SOA so I have the extra suspension strength. I'll post pictures of my custom swing out tire carrier I designed for my '03 lifted Sport Trac, steel bumper is gonna be built soon since I was just rearended 2 1/2 weeks ago. I hate plastic bumpers.

Good friday = Good day to cope my bumper, and that's exactly what I did. More progress after wednesday of next week. It only weighs 50-60 lbs now after taking alot out of the tube.

Dropped quite a bit of weight from coping it, probably in the neighborhood of 50-65lbs now.

Looks like you've got a Superlift on there... I've got a stainless skidplate with the flamed Superlift logo on it. Just throwing it out there...

Nice...

Are you planning to have a tube or something go around the grille and headlights to protect them? I think the 15-20 lbs added might be worth the extra protection against a deer or something.

3 Tubed stinger off the front, one hoop and 2 pipe supports shooting back to my bumper.
