Shouldn't need to. I and plenty of others have; no problems for me.

I would disconnect the battery honestly. It may not be necessary but I've heard of people frying their vehicles computer. I'd disconnect the neg. terminal just to be safe.

Always have the ground clamp as close to the area being welded to prevent the current from flowing through any wires, also aids in lowering the resistance.
If your welding the frame, attach it to the frame, not a cross member or the body.

Unless you attach the ground clamp to the engine or positive terminal on the battery you're pretty safe.

Killing the fuel pump seems pretty common.....

I have seen it happen twice now, disconnect and be safe....

Another question on welding to the frame.

Is it safe to weld on the drivers side frame rail, were the fuel line runs on the backside, without pulling the lines away or wedging something between them and frame?

Why even risk it?

depends where your welding, are you talking sliders, Matt? yea they are close there.. i would pull them away the frame's not that thick.

As for disconnecting the battery, if your TIG welding is a MUST!!

I've MIG and stick welded on my truck w/o an issue, I personally know people who have fried a battery though.

Honestly, it takes like 5 seconds to pull the neg. terminal off, just play it safe.

There's been a lot of welding and some cutting on my frame for the new bumper to go one and I've disconnected the battery every time, no sense risking it imo.
