new mods..headache rack

so i built my self a headache rack and wired some lights up to and also got some new stickers. the rack is 2x2. 1/8 steel and 1 1/2 raised expanded. cost me about 70 to make and then some xtra for lights. the 5 kc's i had laying around and then there are 2 work lights on the back. also bought some fog lights. the rack is off now cause i have to paint it....im thinking about having it powder coated....my friend knows a guy that will do it for like $60. pix.

Looks great! Did you use that chopsaw to cut the angles? If so is there a guide on it so you can be consistent or do you just draw a line on the tubing? Cutting perfect angles seems like it would be the tricky part.

the metal is 2x2 turned sideways and ya i used a chop saw to cut it and the angles were a pain in the ***. i mad one out of wood first and then out of metal. the chop saw has an angle setter on it so i could get the angles. but since i have it turned so its diamond shaped it was a lot harder. i just put it in the clamps sideways at the angle i wanded the cut and eyed all the pieces and tryed to get them as close as possible to the diampnd shape. idk if that makes since? its not really that hard to build it just takes time. this one took me 3 trips to the next town to get metal.....cause i didnt really know what i needed until i needed it. and about 3 days of working on it after school. i could probably build on in a day though.

$120? Ouch! Around here its easy to find a place to do it for a quick $75 give or take. Perhaps do it the standard, find some black primer and give it a few coats, let it sit a few days to dry fully - then spray it with yoru semi gloss automotive...! Shoudl work wonders!

Curious, what type of gun do you use? Gravity well, or a suction?

i have a gravity fed gun and i just sprayed it with gray dupli-color sandable primer. it took 2 whole cans to do 2 coats of primer with that expanded. now i just got to get some auto paint. but i might have to do some more grinding....the corners arent perfect where i ground the welds down.

I powdered my aluminum ProTech...ran me $75. $125 is about average for a piece like that...like mine. I had a hookup.

Great work. If I didn't have a sliding rear window I would have me one. Looks like time for some 06 tails.
