Box looks good, but I think you should just leave it uncovered or at least make a better looking one. What are the plans for paint?

Endoverend47 08-04-2009 11:46 PM

i havent really thought about the paint much. i may just clean it up and leave it how it is. because its stainless steel.

tphelon15 08-04-2009 11:49 PM

Yeah I guess it doesn't really matter much. It'd look good if you cleaned it up, I didn't know it was stainless steel.

cleaning it up is tomorrows job. its only stainless because its all i had and i have a few sheets laying around

you should try and run a hose from your grill or somewhere to create a ram air effect

Stainless you say? Stainless has to be tig welded right?
Did you flux weld it? I see a lot of splatter and flux residue.

Endoverend47 08-05-2009 11:25 PM

no flux or tig. ha i used my mig. the welds are strong just not stainless. and actually if you have stainless wire you can weld stainless and the welds wont rust like regular wire. but stainless wire is pricey. some guy payed me like $20 plus a spool of stainless wire to weld fittings on to his kegs for his brewing set up.

Metal is going to get heat soaked. you would have been better with a plastic housing.

You know this has been my reasoning for not doing something like this, does anybody make like sheets of ABS plastick that you could buy then say cut it out sand it the use Polyurathane Epoxy or something of that nature to bond it together and make your ow air boxes ? or something simular that woouldn't transfer the heat from the engine bay as much ?

You can grind up ABS and add acetone and make a glue.
