Articulation ramp started- pics

The new cheapo metal cutting bandsaw is proving its worth. If I had it 6 months ago i would have saved about $5,000 in medical bills. Glad I have it. The shop is just getting setup. I had to be creative for the suppoerts. The chair and the drill press held the 20' sections of angle iron while it was being cut:

I cut a 20' section of c shaped channel into 2 10' pieces. I then welded 24" pieces of 1.5x1.5 x 1/4" angle iron. Total width is 30":

Flip it over and you can see how the c-channel will hold the pipe for the uprights:

I layed expanded metal over it and welded it in place. I'll have to cut the tag end off and scab a piece or two to finish the layer:

I have over 120' of pipe ready for the uprights along with 2 more 10' pieces of the channell for the bottom. Looks like the total cost is gonna be $300. This does not include wheels/axle which will come at a later date to make it towable:

I'll update as I progress. I need it functional by Sunday.

I need to get a bandsaw. Got the welder, torch, air compresser and all the tools. But I need to be able to cut the metal with a nice clean edge.

Got the bandsaw for $159 at Harbor freight. It's cut through all of it so far including that thick c-channel.

I'm sure its chinese so I don't lick it or put it in my mouth. Probably lead paint.

It's not fast but you can walk away while it does its thing. After its done it turns itself off.

Tubing was $15 a stick at the recycle center. 20' long. It was a good find.

You'll get your day on it. Once the axles go on it can go anywhere. I figure any r-f guys within range could borrow it for their meets. Houston, Huntsville, etc.

Its a small lincoln 220 volt. Don't know the model number.

You gonna be in Austin Sunday RJ? We're having a meet to try this thing out. Look in the meets section for info.

Well the idea is that you stop going once one of your tires is off the ground... Guess Matt forgot that little detail!

that wasnt the problem, it was going up and not watching my tire as i went up, i know you're supposed to stop as one leaves the ground, but wheres the fun in that if you can go all the way up on 3 tires?

Taking shape. I welded a pipe across the bottom end. You can barely see it in the second pic. I needed it to bump against the top piece so I could lift the other end without it sliding off. Anyway, we lifted the end and set some tube in there. We adjusted it to get it level and angled properly:

Then welded in supports. The pieces are 1',2',3',4',5'. I still need to reinforce it some more but it is pretty stout as is:
