okay spot for rear tow hooks?

here's where i'd like to put a set of tow hooks

clicky

for obvious reasons i'm nervous about putting anything for recovery near the bumper. i'd like these to be a frame mount, but unless i get the OEM ($$$) hook from ford any hook i get is going to have to have some sort of a drop bracket.

so there are these brackets off the frame already which support the main part of the step bumper. looks pretty strong down there. think it'll hold up enough to tug with? i'd only need to drill 2 holes and trim the bumper a 1/4 inch to get it to work if that's the case.

not good
that cross brace will just bend down and out
you need to bolt onto one of the frame rails

I would be afraid of ripping the bumper off. Most people use a hitch, there have been several stock FX4 rear hooks on the site, I don't know if they all got sold or not.

I've been looking for one of those but haven't seen one anywhere locally. I guess I need to start seeking out trailer shops or something.

I've been pulled out of mud twice by a tow ball on my rear bumper. I was stuck pretty deep the 1st time, jason had to give me a few hard tugs to pull me out, it didnt damage my bumper at all...

Thats a horrible spot for a tow hook. Unless you don't care about a strap bending your leaf springs or tearing off your bumper.

http://www.4wheelparts.com has the receiver towhooks mentioned above.

I'd rather be pulled out by a trailer ball on my bumper (thats the FACTORY tow point) than stay stuck. Nothing is wrong with that.
