this thread has been down and is now fixed
i built this bumper back in October and have not found time since then to work on it. this is what i did. every thing in this build is all mine from the cutting, to the bending, and the welding of aluminum and steel.

this is what i stated with. i decided to play chicken with a tree


the original mounts cut. used the trusty plasma


building the mounting box


yes during this build i had to sleeve three times. one in the lower hoop and twice on the main horizontal bar.




for the time being i have my tranny cooler mounted on to the bumper right now in the process of relocating it with an new cooler up behind the grill



i found the skid plate in the back of my shop 1/4 aluminum

got it all cut to fit

need some air flow



this bumper is completely removable. there are four mounting points. all the hardware is grade 8

passenger side mounts the driver side mounts are the exact same.

some of my welding. this was the first time i started welding after a couple years. i used the hobart 140 .35 flux wire. i run 75/25 argon/carbon mix gas most of the time but did not have the money to rent the tank or pay for the gas.




still need to add the lower skid plate.

and i plan on building another one latter on. so i am looking for froward to all the constrictive criticism so i can build a better one.

It's pretty much the same exact structure that my bumper has. Your welds look a lot nicer than mine do because when I decided to make my bumper I had to learn how to weld. I practiced for a few days but welding is a true art that takes a while to master. Awesome pictures too. It should give people an idea on how to structurally make a bumper.

i have to say i am a proud supporter and user of the search tab. that is what i used to find ideas for the structure of this bumper. i have to thank all the guys/gals how run tube bumpers here on R-F. because there bumper designs helped.

i started welding when i was 10. i can do any kind of welding and AO fusion but i can not tig. my shop class did not have one. i have been welding regularly during high school in my AG Shop and Auto Shop classes. during that time i went to FFA AG Mechanics competitions to test my skills against other high school kids throughout the state. pretty regularly i was in the top 10. for the past two years i have not touched a welder till i made this bumper.

i am glad to hear about the pics being awesome. with this thread i wanted to help people with there designing proses on building there own tube bumper. as i did when i was looking for ideas.

i am glad to hear that the design of this bumper is good. and thanks for all the constrictive criticism :D

That's sick man. I am wanting to have someone help me build a nice tube rear bumper but just an idea I am throwing around. I like the design of yours though. Very simple.

 

i am getting things together so i can start producing some. all i need to get now are some dies for my bender. thanks for the interest and the complement. i will sell you one when i get a couple more made.

Pretty sweet.. I might have considered it in my lifted days if it used the oem bumper mounts..

 

if you want to go back to your lifted days i will have one for you. the bumpers that i am going to produce will mount to stock points.

 

So it will be a bolt on bumper?

If you produce them, I may just drive up to Porterville and pick one up!

i will produce the bumper but it is going to take me about a month before i can can get things rolling. i need to get a die for the bender and get a prototype fabed up. as for a model fabed up to go along the body lift will happen after i get a few standard models out the door. i will post up when things are ready.
