I drew this in my welding class on paint. Don't hate on the picture.

Anyway, I was wondering what y'all think of it and how well do you think it would work with like a high lift jack and maybe a few more items. Noting too heavy like tires or anything, but just more storage than what a flare side bed has to offer.

It'll mount to the 2 front bed bolts and bolt similar to how a KC light bar mounts to the cab. I may even weld up some light tabs as well.

Opinions? Suggestions?

the only bad thing about the way it is designed is if you ever have to replace the back window, you would have to remove the whole thing......i would see how Christian mounted his on his Ranger and do the mounts that way...

 

The rear bars wouldnt be 'that' close to the window. I would be able to replace the window if ever needed. My only concern would be while off road flexing and what not if it would mess anything up? Since it's attached to the bed and cab.

it could cause structural cracks in the body parts.....since when the truck flexs, the cab and bed move seperately......i would just mount it to the cab then add a headach rack that would be close to the roof rack....giving it an attached look.....

 

I like it....for the roof, and in the bed I would run a bushing of some kind so it would flex a little without scuffing anything up. Just an idea....

 

just had mine replaced fri. so id be good for a little while.

 

put shocks on the rear bars going to the bed for the play with the flex..

or some crap like that

how much do you think something like that would hurt gas mileage?

How much flex are we talking about between the bed and the cab?

 

id say 2-4" depending on the set up..being with brenton and a soild axle swap..ALOT



just think if a bed was on there..

so you gotta makes omething that will slide up and down for when you flexed out or even hit a big bump or something like a shock

 

a shock design for the bed is a good idea...run your down tubes like planned, but add a shock mount about 8"-10" from the bed, and run the other shock mount to the bed floor, it will allow it to flex with the top being mounted to the roof. I will have to draw something up if ya'll dont know what I am talking about lol

i wanna know how the rack was mounted on the black truck, i want something like that on my truck, cept theres a couple problems with mine, its a 98 so the rear doors don't open, i can't use the rain gutters for support in the back, i also want to hold a full size spare, anyone got any ideas

looks like you drill holes..just seal em up and no leaky!

 

i could prob deal with drilling holes but i also would like to be able to move it to my cap when its on in the winter, mani wish i had a newer truck with opening half doors, i know a guy that and he just built a basket that bolts to some universal gutter mount racks

 

I like the idea. I don't know that I'm crazy about the headache rack, but I like the roof rack part.

 

why not a rollbar/roof rack

wont have to worry about the rack flexing over the roof

i wonder if i can get some tracks like the ladder racks are mounted to on my cap, that would make things really easy

 

Surco makes a roof rack for our trucks and they have a kit to bolt it on. just need to drill holes in the roof that mount a track type thing..

I am sure it takes away from you gas mileage not sure how much but probably a little still is a great idea and you can mount lights to it and use it for hauling items so much better than just getting a light bar (kc one) that just goes across your roof you have multiple uses out of a rack I like it. I want one...

 

Here are some pics of mine that i built. I have it mounted to 2 thule rack mounts that clamp to the rain gutters. At the time i got them off ebay for really cheap. Have had it on for almost 3 years now with no problem. When I have taken it off, you can even tell the rack was there. No marks or anything. It has 4 100w lights in front and one in the back. I now have a standard trailer wiring plug on the wires so i can unplug it and take the rack off nice and easy and looks nice and clean. I havent really noticed much drop in gas mileage.
