Rear Winch Idea

Soon i am going to be getting a 3 inch body lift
and i was thinking of doing a rear winch
I was gonna build a frame under the rear of the bed as close to the tailgate as possible
then put a kind of access hatch in the bed on hinges so i can lift it open and access the winch
Then i could just have the cable come out in-between the gap of the bumper and the bottom of the tailgate
Is there enought room to do this with a 3 inch BL?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.

Why not just mount a receivable winch?

You could just measure under your bed now, and add 3inch for the added room in the up direction....and i'm sure it'll depend on how big of a winch you get. You could also just make a hitched mounted one so you can take it on/off and/or swap it to the front hitch if you ever need one up there.

There wont be enough room unless you cut into the spare tire mold thing under there. but yeah, just mount it to a receiver and run wire to both front and rear, add a hitch to the front and build a bumper on the front that will house it when its in the front receiver like this.

But not everyone has a badass plate bumper like yours lol
And i dont like doing stuff other people have done.
If i did the reciever style thats just too easy.
And im almost positive i can get it to work..

dont listen to them,
build the truck how you want!!

I have a second winch I've been meaning to mount in the back, under the bed, probably hack up the spare tire mount and put the winch between the frame rails, then like you said cut out a section so you can get access to it.

Your gonna need to figure out something for the fair lead, the easiest thing would be to build a bumper and incorporate them into it.

x2

Mount the fairlead where the tag goes, then mount the tag to the fairlead...if you keep the factory bumper on it that is. Then cut a section of the bed out to get access.

A couple more pictures in album.
This setup works well for me with no change to stock spare or departure angle.

The guys are right tho, remve spare and set between frame rails is the ultimate.
