Truck Box question

Has anyone attempted to take a normal (ranger size) truck box, and cut the top off, then remount the lid, and lock to make it a low profile truck box?
Is it even possible, or would it work?

My box is sitting at my fiancee's sisters house, so i havn't been able to look at it good enough to tell if it is do-able.

sure it's doable......but why? espicially since lo-pro boxes are out there....and they are decently priced. Trepaul86 got his for $40 used off craigslist. If it's diamond plate, I think it'll be a pain to get the diamonds to match up, and not alot of people know how to weld aluminum.

Thats what i was thinking.
I had gotten mine dirt cheap back when i worked for sears and never used it.
Guess i'll probably just end up looking for a low profile one to replace this one.
Esp for the time involved with doin it.
