Thinking of making a new front bumper

So the past few days, I've been thinking of making up a new front bumper. So far I have:

I was thinking 2" square tubing, but would 1 1/2" be better?

I plan on putting a front receiver in it, so maybe 2" ?

Also, the thing in the middle, below the receiver "hole" would be a skid plate, should that be 1/4" thick?

It would be bolted or welded to the existing bumper mounts, I haven't decided yet...

(You can see I got bored in my Abnormal Psych class)

Take a good look at the bumper mounts first so you know how you're going to mount it. I wasn't able to use the stock mounts to attach to my bumper.

Christain you mounted a some type of T-bar that bolted to the tow hooks... then the other part went to the bumper?

good idea

Looks like you have thought it out and thats the first step, I would look around at a few of the guys trucks which I am sure you have. I think the roung tubing would give you a more clean look, where the square tubing would give you a more rugged look. Both look good in my opinion.

Thats the thing, back when I had the accident, I saw the bumper mounts, the looked kinda funky, like the middle part where the frame rail is bumped out about an inch from the rest of the mount like in christians picture, so cutting them off may be neccesary.

What I did for mine is cut off the front crossmember and plate the frame. Then you run two sq or circle tubes out from there to your front bar. That is the way most of the desert guys do it. Just thought I would throw that out there.
