Welding/Grinding Curtain

Not really much fab work here... but thought I'd post it up in case it gives some of you guys some ideas.

I needed something to block welding and grinding sparks from my work bench area, and this is what I came up with. I already had a 6x8' welding screen thing so I made it around that, centered between the ceiling and floor. There's a gap at the top and at the bottom but I think it'll still stop 99% of the sparks.

I have a 6x8" welding blanket with grommets that I can hang up there as well. I started with a 10', 5' and 3' sections of black pipe that I welded together. I made all the brackets out of 1" square tubing, 1" angle iron, 1/8" flat stock and 5/8" rod.

Sorry for the poor quality pics... all I had with me was my iPod.

Welding/grinding blankets are a MUST in some areas.

I recently welded in a "room" that was actually 4 walls of welding curtains.

I figured it'd be best to try and keep the sparks contained... mainly because of the car there in the winter though!

Yes.

You dont want bits of steel and grinding wheel in your clear-coat.

WASH YOUR CAR often if you grind in the same room. Metal dust can and will get into clear-coat. Ask me lol.

For right now I don't really care about the paint since it'll be redone in the spring... I just make sure the glass is covered!
