Well I guess it's not so much "build" as tear down, but today me and my buddy started work on an 8.3 Cummins. It's been sitting for 10 (!!!) years after it was hydro locked. So far, we've found: -Turbo's seized up -Crank Case is a nasty mess -Timing case is full of rust -Exhaust manifold is full of rust - Injectors won't come out, making head removal impossible. All this to figure out if the motor's salvageable.

was not built today but was built over chrismas vacation. a buddy and i got coned into making a rear bumper for a chevy 1500 that is planed have duel swing out gates that will have at least 20 to 30gals of fluid.

the main reason for this is to repair damage. my buddy who owns the truck was rear ended and the truck suffered minor damage but the bumper and the hitch was tweaked pretty good.

material used is 3/16" x 6" flat bar, 1/2" x 6" flat bar, and 2" x 6" rectangle tube.

on with the pics

That is one heavy duty bumper... looks good! You also helped me out a ton with that drill press pic... I needed something to support one end of a project I was working on at the right height and I never thought of using my drill press. Thanks!

ALMOST complete.

Need to finish nailing down the tin, and knock off the temporary supports up top.

The entire thing is only temporary, due to the fact that a future house build on will occur in this general area lol.

built a custom receiver for my buddys slamed e36. the ranger gets about 14mpgs on 38s with 2 bikes in the back. so his bmw should get almost twice that pulling the little bike trailer.

tubing is 2.25" id 1/8th wall and the plates are 1/2 by whatever scrap we had all stainless stainless welded. 8 3/8ths bolts with large fender washers on the inside. they sell basicly what we made but out of steel and they rate it for 2,000 lbs.

i also helped with doing a sportsmobile conversion on a ford e-250 with the 7.3 diesel and it has a solid axle conversion on the front.

Today I made some equations that I used to find the electrical capacity of several unknown parallel and series of capacitors. It wasn't a lot of fun.

Made a couple more modifications to my blast cabinet... I wasn't happy with the dust collector I had so I looked around online and found out how to make one using a vacuum, an empty pail, conduit and some fittings. I changed a few things to make it work for me and mounted the vacuum on the side of the cabinet. This one works much better!

I also welded in sort of a shelf on the bottom for the pail and an extra bag or two of sand with a cut out for another pail to fit under the drain on the bottom of the cabinet.

Here's what I've been working on for the past couple weeks after work...

The main section is pretty much done other than stain, but this weekend I'm going to add a second 3x5' lean-to section on the side where there are no battens.

Finished it up aside from the stain. The tire rack worked perfect... fits all three sets of winter tires!

Started my horseshoe pits... just need to blast them tomorrow, coat the metal with Chassis Saver and then get them in the ground before Sunday! Some of the welds didn't turn out too pretty but I'm sure they'll hold just fine!

Made a small welding table today.
I've had the plans to make it and the steel for years.

Its small (only a 2 1/2 x 4) but that thing is HEAVY!
