What is this tool?

I haven't the slightest clue as to what this is or what it does, all I know is I have one and don't know what to use it for

its a hook spanner wrench. i have several of them in my tool box at work. i rebuild hydraulic cylinders for CAT. dont have any clue what else it could be used for.

As said, spanner wrench.

additional use MAYBE....

adjusting the adjustable nuts on a coilover shock for varying the preload on the coil spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what I generally think of them being used for.

they have several uses. but shocks and cylinders would be a main use.

Yep, I have one in the tool box, use it for all kinds of weird stuff, like when you need to twist a 2x4 or whatever....

That tool has been in the bottom of my tool box at work for 5 years and I have never touched it nor do any of the old time mechs know what to do with it. I figured it had something to do with compressing valve springs but I have a different tool for that

ya my dad says they also used them when he was volenteer firefighter on the fire hoses

Yes it puts on sleeves and spacers and washers on coilovers and hydraulic cylinders. I have a similar looking tool on my tube notcher to turn the holesaw.

ya they can be used for that also, i have 2 of them, an all chrome one (that my grandfather won in a water battle + he was the chief) and a regular one.. cool tools.

i work for Wagner Equipment Company. we are a large CAT dealer in Denver,CO.

we use them allllll the time in the navy for fire hoses. it's even more awesome when drunken sailors beat each other with them.

an additional use for them is the lock nuts on blackmer CO2, NH3 and LPG pumps.
