Nice find. Sounds like a decent deal to get more power out of the 3.0's.

HarryTasker 10-20-2008 06:31 PM

Every Whipple I have ever seen go on a 3.0 has been taken off. There is a reason Whipple doesn't make it anymore.

I know 2 guys that are still running theirs hard.

whippersnapper02 10-20-2008 06:34 PM

The problem is that the 3.0 can't even handle a little boost in stock form.

Really now, wheres your proof to back that up

If you were to get a nice rebuild if it's high miles. ARP bolts and such. Needing a higher flow fuel pump, Cam for performance reasons, exhuast, after market header and all that jazz I wouldn't see a problem. unless you did a cheap build and wanted to lbow ya 3.0 up

Just search and you will see how many pull them off because they blow head gaskets.

They blow gaskets because of the head bolts are weak, upgrade those to ARP and you should see very little problems with the head gaskets... I also think the head bolts are spaced out too far apart leaving some weak points from where the head and block meets the gasket.

Rapala 05-10-2009 02:24 PM

there wasnt a problem with the 3.0's they can take a good beating, now if you are just plain stupid and run a **** load of boost and not upgrade the internals yeah any motor is going to blow even the 4.0 and 2.3's its common knowledge, dont knock on the belated 3.0 its a tough mofo. It can take 12psi from a turbo and a supercharger with ease with a good tune, and fuel upgrades.... and with that you hit atleast 300 horsepower and still be safe.

dont come on here saying that the 3.0 cant handle any boost, because thats saying that a 4.0 or a 2.3 cant take any boost either... Whipple stopped making them cause they were having reported problems with the blades within the supercharger, those who running a whipple on their 3.0 have corrected this problem.

project 4x4 05-24-2009 09:35 AM

i love my 3.slow!!!! 300k and still tickin along soundin like a desile ha i can still click off 0-60's inless than 9seconds ya its slow but its a 3.0 i would love to supercharge my truck tbh but i already have the 351W block andi think supercharging my stock motor just would be a waste if im gonna drop a 351 in there

Egge2008 07-09-2009 11:29 AM

i have an o4 with a wipple im running five pounds the only problem i had was my engine over heated and i burnt some valves and blew the head gasket rebuilt the top end and new gaskets truck runs great i havent had a problem yet. and i have no plans of taking it off just making the engine stronger to add a little more boost any questions just ask
