You can do a KN intake and Full exhaust. A programmer will be your best gain. just return to factory tune before you go to the dealership. I had a 08 stang come into the dealership and it had a SCT tune VOIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

You're not gonna get another 50HP/50TRQ with bolt ones. A tuner will help though.

I face a similar situation, and have scoured the internet/forums for info. As yet, there are no turbo kits for 2.3 duratec Rangers. There is a site that has everything needed (focussports??) for fusion/focus, but the gear doesn't cross-over to the Ranger. Nice to dream about the potential. There are companies that provide serious work for the LIMA engine, but that doesn't help us.

At 1 time there was a build in process that was to be the forerunner of a turbo kit for the 2,3, but I think the company didn't survive, and have seen no more on that project.

Turborangerforums is an interesting place, and showcases some 1 of a kind rigs. Long story short; there's not anything readily available on the after market to fill our needs, YET??

Let me correct myself. There are kits available, but I wouldn't waste my $ on them.

i think if you found a tubro kit making 8psi it would handle just fine, most can.

i wouldn't say most but i would say a 2.3 duratec could survive 8 psi boost, but i think any kind of forced induction mods would VOID the factory warranty... a k&n filter, full exhaust, and a SCT tuner(although return to stock tune to visit the dealership) will help SOME... not the 50 hp you're looking for though

I have been wanting to put a turbo on my 2007 2.3lt stx for a while now but have not found anything that will fit. i may have to just go down to the local speed shop and have them find a turbo that will work and figure out the rest of the setup for me. it will be a while before i can do anything like that but for now i just plan to get a programmer and header w/ full exhaust to go along with the cold air intake i already have on it. as far as your question about what would void the warranty im not real sure as my truck only had a 30 day powertrain warranty that expired 4 months ago

Thunderbird turbo to ranger engine

hey im new to this site and dont know if im posting this right but anyways my question is can i take a turbo from a 2.3l thunderbird and put it on my 1998 2.5l 5 speed manual ranger? the guy at the auto parts store said i could because the 2.5 is basically a 2.3 but just a little bit bigger. if i can do it then what else would i have to do to my engine? would i have to chip it? i dont want that much more hp i just want it so it runs better , gets better fuel economy, and a little bit more power all at the same time and besides how many people do you know that has a turbocharged ranger?

actually it would be easier to swap the turbocoupe pistons into your ranger block, than the entire engine, seeing as yours is OBDII... the pistons are the same size... actually teh only major difference between the 2.3 and 2.5 is the 2.5 has a longer stroke... but you need a turbo manifold from a turbocoupe, bigger MAF, bigger injectors, other necessary turbo pieces(search www.turborangerforums.com) and a tune(SCT or others)

you might grab the pistons too... you see, if you boost on cast pistons(which the 2.5 has) they melt without a reeeally good tune... and then you're limited to about 5 psi
