can i put CO2 in a N2O bottle?

I got a 10# Nitrous Express bottle, can i get it filled with CO2 or is something different with them?

RangerNDog 05-31-2009 09:15 AM

I am pretty sure you can. From what I understand they are both stored a liquid and about the same pressure. You might have to get a different fitting for the bottle to get it filled and it might be hard finding someone to put co2 in a n2o bottle. I don't see why a quick hit with the rattle can couldn't cover up that it is a n2o bottle.

99ranger4x4 05-31-2009 09:19 AM

NITROUS EXPRESS is engraved into the tank haha

I'll take it down to Airgas and see what they say. If i have to buy a new valve, and possibly get it cleaned its what ever, its hopefully going to be cheaper than a new tank.

Talk to your welding supply store. Usually you bring in your old bottle, and the give you another that is already filled. I don't see a problem, but they might.

Dangerranger01 05-31-2009 09:20 AM

PS you can get fittings to convert to the CGA320 CO2 thread if it is necessary.

jtslmn720 05-31-2009 10:18 AM

might not be able to. our fiber wrapped compressed air paintball tanks said the tank was only approved for compressed air because of the effects of different gases on the tank

also does n2o get cold when its filled? i know co2 gets really cold which could weaken the tank

05prerunner 05-31-2009 05:13 PM

UM... Nitrous Oxide will burn you with frostbite. Its extremely cold.

99ranger4x4 05-31-2009 10:31 PM

both tanks have some very similar engravings..

I took the regulator off the power tank and put it on the NOS bottle, but when i turn it on the gas bypasses the regulator as if it wasn't screwed on all the way.. any ideas?

monkeysteeler12 06-02-2009 09:55 AM

i wouldnt mess with it. why not get a new bottle.

im sure that there is a reason that that can was made for NO2.

Dangerranger01 06-02-2009 11:41 AM

True. I've seen many small CO2 bottles on craigslist for under $50 full. Seen many 10lbs, some 20lbs, and if you're lucky, you can get a cool aluminum one!

graniteguy 06-02-2009 12:10 PM

bill rebola converted a scuba tank which holds air. Nitrous will store liquid so I see it as a better candidate to swap.

I cant remember bills username but he posted about it a couple of years ago.

if you go to the right welding shop they probably have the fittings. i would go to the one on lamar.

graniteguy 06-05-2009 07:50 AM

they said no they don't have th parts, or no you can't use it for that application?

99ranger4x4 06-05-2009 09:48 AM

i cant fill it with CO2.. I'll try somewhere else.. i don't understand why they would sell adapters if you cant put CO2 in it.

bucky919 06-05-2009 09:54 AM

I know the kid here at the local dive shop would fill it for ya, he doesn't care one bit, he would over fill tanks until you would tell him to stop. He use to fill my paintball tanks over about 500 psi lol.

99ranger4x4 06-05-2009 09:56 AM

shipping on a bottle that heavy, especially filled.. and being pressurized will cost a ton.

Dangerranger01 06-14-2009 02:47 PM

Dude, sell the NOZ bottle to some ricer, and buy a CO2 bottle off CL or from a welding shop. Do it right, you know?
