An evil Idea...

Hello Guys and gals,
Last night I had a vision as to what I'm planning on doing to my truck. I've already done some research and have began to order some parts. Here's a link for turbocharging needs: www.hellionpowersystems.com . You might wanna check these guys out. A V8 with some Mid frame turbos are going in my truck once it's paid for. The reason I chose Mid frame Turbochargers is due to clearance issues and I can use meaner nastier turbos. But to answer any questions in advance the engine is going to be a 302 block with a stroker kit. I did talk to the people at the link above and they also recomended something else but that would be way too much for the engine to handle.

knightmare1015 03-23-2008 02:10 PM

Oh No!!

That did it. I will no longer be dealing with Crane Cams. I just sent back the camshaft they sent yesterday and asked for my money back. They have sent the wrong camshaft 4 times now and it looks like this last one was the same as before. I sent it back yesterday via Fedex. They just emailed me saying it had arrived at it's final destination point.

Ok dude. I'll get someone to post them for me once the swap is completed and before it's completed. Right now I'm sitting on pins and needles counting down the days to where I make the very last friggin payment. So you'll get some before and after photos. I'll have to get a volunteer to post them for me.

An update...

Ok ladies and gentlemen,
I found what I'm looking for so far very, very easily. The turbos are going to be way way up there in price. I've rejected 4 engine blocks so far, but they're easy to find. The dudes I've been dealing with want me to come by and check out a "Fresh Shipment" of engine blocks and some trannies they just got in tomorrow. So I'll be doing that. Oh just to let you guys know in advance, I won't be on here much due to the fact I've just got too much Sh*t going on right now. But I still love this site and I've made quite a few friends on here.

OMG, Dear jesus h. christ...

Oh man this is the absolute best killer update known to man. I just got off the phone with STS Squire turbo systems and let me tell you this truck is going to be sweet and thensome. It bolts on in place of your exhaust and utilizes the air flowing under the vehicle. They put my mind at ease concerning space for the turbos. I also went to "O"reilys auto parts and got a quote for a basic engine(Everything except the intake system) for $1,300 bucks! That saves me alot of bread and time. Can't wait to get started doing the actual swap. Right now I'm still in the R&D stage and planning stage but that is where the best results are achieved. If something is well planned and researched you'll get what you're looking for in terms of results. Those guys I went to I mentioned in an earlier post turned out ot have nothing in half way decent shape and it wasn't what I was looking for either. I'll see you guys later. I have to do some killer hours this week and have alot of business to take care of as well. Have a great and Fantastic day.

Research is great up until you put it in.. and you realize all the electrical work that needs done/undone.. sounds like a plan you got going though! =)

not to squash your plans man, cuz i was totally gonna go the same way you are, but i heard nothing but, i have heard nothing but bad things about that sts system. people told me that first there is no way they could run it without a ic, you could skip an intercooler, but you would have to turn your boost way down. next, is the incredible amount of lag you would experience.

there is actually a kid around her that has an sts system on his camaro. and i saw him at a meet one night, and i got to talking to him about it. he said that he would have much rather put an actual turbo in even though its a twin setup, simply because of the lag, and how the oil lines had to be run and what not. he then said that its basically a lazy mans turbo.

but make sure you do your research, and try to find someone that has it installed (wont find to many simply because of the before mentioned problems) the people from sts will tell you whatever you want to hear because they need to sell it. keep that in mind

There Kits Lag Because Of The Distance They Are Away From The Engine An The Excesively Long Intercooler Plumbing Because Of The Design You Could Just Use A Smaller Exhaust Housing On The Turbo To Increase Faster Spool.

Setting the rcord strait....

Well. I have been doing an extreme amount of research into this. I did mention STS, but I will not be using their turbochargers. Turbonetics is who I'll be using. Stage 1 kit is for mounting purposes only. Wiring is no challenge to me at all anymore. I wire 18 wheelers(the trailer) everyday, in fact I just got in from work about 2 hours ago from doing that very thing. It will have to be rewired COMPLETELY due to the fact of what kind of fuel injection I'm planning on using. Not to mention the NEW ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM too. Alot of planning, part consultation, a few meetings with guys and gals that have done this swap in a ranger, not to mention other places and things I have gone to and done. So far I have about a 15 page list of parts, and about a 20 pages of vendors. I've been planning this and reasearching this for over 2 and a 1/2 years. The GRAND TOTAL so far is over $35,000 bucks once completed. I also didn't mention what size engine either. I started with a 302 block but have since then decided on another size engine and have stuck with it ever since. The paint I'm planning on using is House of kolor which aint cheap. Strait up motor about 800 RWHP on 93 octane fuel. with the turbochargers I chose, at 10 lbs of boost over 2,400 with a single turbocharger on a stock 5.0. Alot of choppy, choppy is GOING TO BE NEEDED just to get the engine to fit. Oh and a TILT ONE PIECE FRONT END will be needed too. and FRAME reinforcement will be needed critically. I'm told it will be in the shop for about 2 to 3 weeks just for the swap. another 3 to 4 weeks for paint and body and 2 days for the exhaust system which is still up in the air. A VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO THOSE WHO ADVISED ME ABOUT STS TURBOS SYSTEMS. They still keep calling here and bugging me.

knightmare1015 04-04-2008 11:07 PM

Turbo Locations and how many...

Twin turbochargers are going to be mounted under the cab off the headers. I've decided on the exhaust. Cherry Bomb Turbo muffler.

knightmare1015 04-04-2008 11:16 PM

Too much...

well I can scratch www.hellionpowersystems.com off my list. They suggested I use a supercharger in addition to turbocharging, which is too much and is not needed. The Happy Juice(A.K.A NOS) won't be needed either. No need to add that stuff because of the power that will be generated from the turbochargers. I'm considering an Automatic Tranny from TCI Auto. Alot of Racing Engine Builders who do alot of Turbocharging use them. 2 reasons for this(and very good ones too). Reason number one: Bad Knees, it's painfull when you change gears. number 2: the tranny's coming out anyway plus the drive shaft will have to be custom due to a short wheel base and monster sized engine.

Yes I know about that. They keep calling here to get me to tell them what kind of turbo I want. I just want the mounting hardware which might not work. But in order for me to Twin Turbo this "Monster of an Engine" midframers is the only way I can. Due to "it's" size even a One Piece Tilt Front end wont help. I decide to switch blocks last week.

ive never understood how they can use a turbo charger with a scupercharger, since one is for low end and the other for high end

well thats better than the sts system, and putting them in the rear of the truck. that kinda like how the euro cars do it. like the vdubs, and my moms volvo have the turbo down at the end of the header, so thats a better way of doing it, since its closer lag will be less.

Turbochargers run off exhaust fumes. Superchargers run off your crankshaft and it depends on what supercharger you use. I aint doing both no need to. They were just trying to get me to spend some money on something I don't want or need. Go to the website mentioned earlier and visit their FAQ section. It's possible but why would anyone do it.

Yes it will be almost zero turbo lag. Even better with a turbo Downpipe. Turbonetics and their company are the best I've ever dealt with. They don't hesitate to tell you a better way of turbocharging something even if it costs them money. That's what I like about them. Plus the STS guys didn't like how my exhaust is now much less when it's done. They're trying their best to get me to use their crap. Garret Turbos are the sorriest in quality I've ever seen as of late. Seems like you're buying a Name instead of a part. They've really went down hill over the past few years. HKS aint good at all anymore. Ever since they were picked up buy The F&F franchise they don't even care anymore as long as they make money. Greddy is good but if you use a another brand of oil other than theirs it voids the warranty of their turbochargers.

Letting part of the cat out....

Ok ladies and germs,
I'm letting part of the cat out of the bag to breathe a bit. It will NOT be a V8. It wont be pretty to the competition, the Police (including their aircraft), The military won't like it and for Sure NASCAR will Hate it with a passion. It WON'T be a Ford engine, and for damn sure it WON'T be a slowtie either. I am going to do something that has never been done before in a Ranger (or at least to the best of my knowledge). A MOPAR ENGINE is going to be used along with the tranny and ECU. 6 speed double overdrive tranny with 4.10 gears. The engine is nasty from the factory and to get it in your hands will run $85,000 dollars or get the dealer to order the engine for you. And with a custom grind camshaft along with turbo exhaust manifolds. Good luck trying to catch me at ANY TRACK. There will be 4 Turbochargers (I seen a diesel truck in a mag somewhere with 6 turbos). The Turbocharger at 10 Lbs of boost is 2000 RWHP on pump gas. It's called the Super Thumper T-106 and there will be 4 of those along with a twin air to air interkooler set up. 8.4 liters of Turbocharged demonic terror. To the competition I say this in a good way "Start praying and hoping I don't show up".

Mark98xlt 04-12-2008 01:59 AM

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahaha

WowMike2001 04-12-2008 03:58 AM

so.. not to be grinding anythign here.. but you are still trying to pay off your truck... and youll be spending 85,000 on a new engine for it? Why not buy an f150 and get a v8 in it, then switch it to a manual..?

Rooks 04-12-2008 01:42 PM

Oh man... are you for real? First and foremost.... if you are spending 85,000 on an engine you are either way too damn rich... or you are an idiot.

Secondly... what the hell is the point of 2000 HP in our trucks? Unless your building a drag truck (which from all your references to tracks, I doubt) it's pointless.... go as fast as you want. If you can't stop and corner it's pointless.

Finally, and probably most importantly, unless you start coming with pictures and or some real technical information on how you plan to accomplish these crazy ass ideas, no one is going to believe a word you are saying.

I mean no offense, but you sound like a 8 year old kid with your "my truck will be the fastest thing in the world" crap your spewing up above.

knightmare1015 04-12-2008 03:06 PM

It Was A Joke!!! (l.o.l)

APRIL FOOLS. I am not going to spend that much. I know I was a little late but I had to do it. Shame on me (sick grin and sinsester laugh). No I aint doing that. My truck couldn't even handle that kind of power. That last post was a Joke. But in actually I am putting in a V8 stroked to around 347 C.I.D with twin turbos. Just checking to see if anyone in here has a since of humor is all. The Mid frame turbos I am using is around maybe 250 RWHP added to the engine. I'll have roughly about maybe 900 RWHP at full boost. SORRY ABOUT THE JOKE.

knightmare1015 04-12-2008 03:25 PM

An update...

Ok. After getting price quote after quote on a 302 block and short block rotating assemblies, Oreily's wins on the price $1,385.42 for everything except the intake manifold. Hooker Headers wins as far as mounts and headers go. They got exactly what I need. Holly will be converting from Carb to Fuel injection they have a kit for that paticular purpose. The compression is going to be 9.5:1 with 1.7 full rollers and a 225 degree cam. around 72 cc's because if I go with a lower amount the compression jumps to 10.0:1 and that is too high to be running pump gas. I may change from american thunder exhaust system to a Delta Flow Super 40 series. As far as pics go, stay tuned. I may have to get a volunteer to post some of them for me. Roughly I guess I would have about 400 Lbs of open spring pressure. I will be farming out the actual swap, but parts wise and some assembly will be done by me. STS is driving me crazy. They keep calling and calling and calling me pratically begging me to get one their squire turbo kits. They call even more now since they've learned that I'm using Turbonetics.

Hi guys and gals. I need a VOLUNTEER to post some pics for me. I don't really know how to post photos on here. This is before anything is done to it (other than the exhaust which is oviously been modified).Thanks.
