getting ready to prepare to SC the truck...
thats right. tys 4x4 is about to be boosted!!!
just want to know which kit is best to get. i believe there are a few out there. and where is the best place to find an m90 for it checked ebay. and only came up with one blower that has been ported and rebuilt. for 600 bucks. no thanks. i would rather buy a beat one and rebuild it myself. and is the install pretty straight forward? what all else will i need to do? im sure i'll need a new tune as well. just wanna get all my ducks in a row, research research research and then execute! thanks! this whole kit would be nice, but wow. its a bit expensive. but comes with a good supercharger. http://www.explorerexpress.com/xchar...ner-p-768.html seems like it covers all bases. |
well your gonna have to cut into that purdy hood vinyl for one

even if hood clearance was a problem, im body lifted. engine is sitting 3" lower in the bay then stock lol |
Haha dude, its always something
I would say explorerexpress.. there kit is well tested but i havent heard much on the other one except maybe tuning..
thats the biggest thing to look at.. tune, fuel pump and maybe some injectors haha |
as far as the tune goes, would i be able to get a custom tune done by bamachips for this and load it onto my tuner?
explorer express comes with all the tunes needed =]
^^EE is more than double the cost of the RP caster kit plus SC plus tuner....
RP Caster. $1600 kit, get more power out of it, plus a bigger SC as well. AND it's cheaper. Did I mention that? As far as getting the huffer, ebay, junkyards, craigslist, etc. I'm kicking myself for not getting the one at my local yard that was a low mile unit for $100. I'd do the kit if I wern't scared as balls to push that skinny pedal for the risk of blowing up the trans. I have memories of Jared tearing his trans to shreds with his EE in double lifted form. |
i dont want to dish out 4k+ lol

RPCaster is the cheap one, EE is expensive
oh nevermind i thought u were commenting to shane
well then apparently you don't wanna be boosted that badly ;)
oh i do!
EE will pass smog and the RP kit wont. At least in CA it wont. If you have a guy that will look past it when the time comes then go with the RP kit.
what kind of HP gains can you expect with a SCd 4.0?
Like 50-60 hp. I think the EE kit runs 5psi and I know that with the stock pulley on the M90 you will get 4.5psi I wouldn't go over maybe 5psi on a stock engine.
Has anyone ever built a 4.0 and then put a blower on it? I have pondered this idea, but how much would the block hold?
More like 75+ Depending on intercooler, water/meth injection, pullies, tune, etc...
The RPcaster kit is well made and is fairly easy to install.. I could sell you my blower if your interested. I'm getting a new one this week!! |

fourwheeler magazine dyno'd there ranger at and extra 75 horses with the EE kit when they built the project "rangerunner" if i recall correctly
I re read everything and yeah its more like 74 hp with the EE kit at 6psi while the RP kit runs at 5.5. I was close. LOL Either way I wouldn't do it to this engine.
Q: How does this kit compare to the X-Charger kit in your opinion ? They claim to be getting 80 Hp out of their kit - Have you considered getting their chip ? Are you using the same fuel injector size ? Where does one get & how much are they - the Eaton blower ? Mar-05-06 A: The X-Charger is a nice kit, using the Eaton MP62 supercharger. It lists for $3995.00 for the Ford Ranger. My kit uses a larger Eaton M90 supercharger, but it is out of the earlier Thunderbird supercoupe, that you can get on EBAY used from between $120.00 to $250.00. My original intent was to provide a setup for about half the going price. They state they get 74 plus HP at 6 psi boost. Check out the Jan 2006 article Project Range Runner in Four Wheeler magazine. The final Dyno results were 225hp and 257lb ft tq. My Dyno results are 216hp and 250lb ft tq. This relates to me putting out 9hp less and 7lb ft tq less than the X-Charger at 5.5lbs boost. I don't think this is too bad using the stock injectors and maf. Kind of makes you wonder what could be accomplished with a smaller pulley, pick up minimum of 3lbs boost. 30lb injectors instead of the stock 24lb, 80mm gt maf, SCT performance tune, etc. Check out my website and you can see other info. I can say that I've had this setup on my Ranger since last April, with no problems. I've put 22,000 miles on it, and it is my daily driver. I put on aprox 150 miles per day. Any other questions email me at rcaster@yahoo.com. PS check out my website for add'l info. |

None of the kits have an intercooler and no one really goes beyond the just bolting on the kit so that's why I said less. EE says about 60 at 5psi with their kit and I know the RP kit only puts out 4.5psi.
