M90 supercharger for 3.0L

Alright, I haven't seen this in a while (not that I've been on much) but I wanted to try and get some more info on doing a swap like this. From what I remember it needs a custom manifold made so it can be attached. I have a 01 GTP with a 3.8 with a super charger so I learned a lot about these from buying it. I know on my GTP I want to upgrade to the newer version of it as its far superior than the one I have.

Now other than that I really don't have any info. I know I couldn't run much boost as its a 3.0L but the stock pulley I believe is around 6PSI so I should be pretty good with that and it would solve quite a few horsepower problems ha ha ha.

So go ahead and let me know where I need to go to find out info or what. I know boss had created a kit a long time ago that actually made the engine blow up while he was towing up a hill (I believe this was the problem)

if i remember correctly, you'll want the thunderbird m90, not the gxp m90. You'll want a 4.0L SOHC MAF. Custom aluminum intake plenum is needed to be fabricated. There's afew threads regarding the 3.0 supercharger around here. i've learned some when i was helping a friend get ready for his m90 install on his '00 3.0 ranger. I think he's even got a thread posted...his screenname is 'MudSlinger'.

Alright, I'm not sure what the difference is between them. I'm guessing that the TB is facing the wrong way or something?

I'll search his name, thanks.

It was MudSlanger, Chris never got the intake manifold made so the project kind of died. He hasn't been on here in a while

on a project like that, the gen 3 M90 wouldnt be too bad. the gen v, which im assuming you're talkin a bout is only a bit more efficient.

this would be cool to do though. i wanted to use the m90 off the spare motor i've got for my grand prix, but i guess the ports on the bottom are different then the one on the thunderbird s/c?

The thunderbird SC doesn't bolt on like the GM M90 does. You see, the thunderbird M90 was intercooled, where as the GM one is not. The throttle body is mounted to the blower on the back of the Ford version very similarly to the GM version. However, on the Ford, the boost actually comes out of the top of the blower, runs through a tube to the intercooler, and then from the intercooler back to the intake. The intake is very short, and the "inlet" is at the very back almost under the blower. The Ford version is easier to adapt because you can essentailly mount it anywhere that is lined up with the belt, as long as you make the correct brackets. You dont have to put it right above the engine, because the outlet from the blower doesn't have to bolt directly to the manifold like the GM version does.

Older post.. but IMO on a 3.0L I'd carefully replace the headbolts with some ARP ones. Untorque them in a cross pattern by 5ft lbs at a time. Take them down to 20ft lbs and then one at a time remove and replace torqing each back to 20ft lbs. Then walk them all back up to the factory spec. Wait 24 hrs and go back and re-torque.

Do that and I'll bet you can push 9-10psi without a problem. (as long as it's got plenty of fuel)

The trick here is to not let the head move. keeping all but one bolt at 20ft lbs ought to do it.

Ill have a manifold made up here sometime in the next year.. by that time maybe ill keep my measurements around and sell them if need be. who knows!! Ill have that SCer on no matter what but it may take me some time thats all.

^^^I miss my M90:sad:

So What kind of M90 should you use if you wanted to do the install...the GM or Ford version?

elementsenjoi 03-09-2010 06:09 PM

The M90 off of the Bird. More mounting options and lets you run an intercooler.

DangerRanger1 03-09-2010 06:13 PM

alright well i have an m112 sittin at the house and im startin to get some ideas, off a cobra lol

elementsenjoi 03-09-2010 06:17 PM

Then why are you asking about the M90?

DangerRanger1 03-09-2010 06:20 PM
